Uhhh? I mean I guess that's cool?

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Goodspeed - 06-03-2014

They dropped 800 lbs on the wrong car...

Next gen 458 to receive turbo

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 06-04-2014

If they make it sound remotely close to the F40 then I can't be that upset about it.

Still kind of a shame, there's nothing like the sound of a pissed off naturally aspirated motor. My shop has a couple of the old 512 Flat-12 cars from the 80s hanging around and they sound absolutely biblical at cold idle. I actually jumped when the tech started one of them up.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 06-04-2014

While Ferrari is going turbo, Porsche is going 4 cylinder for the Boxtser and Cayman. 2.0L is good for 286 hp and 295 ft lbs of torque and the and the 2.5L will have 360 hp and 347 lb ft of torque.

I'm sure the 2018 STi will still have the same EJ257 motor with the same cast pistons.

You know, I am going to put on my old man pants here for a second. Now I am the first to tell you that I love Corvettes, I always have. I shopped a C6 Z06 for a hot minute. I have been scared to death driving my old boss's C4 with a 434 Dart block.

The first comment on that post reiterated my first thought as soon as I looked at that dyno curve. 500 ft lbs at 1500 rpm in an already crazy tail happy car? What gets me here is the normal people are going to be buying these cars to drive on the street. There is no arguing that the power curves are crazy in that motor but there are very few people that are going to be able to and willing to drive that thing responsibly on the street. If that was an AWD GTR or Porsche it would be a different story but I gotta be honest, you are going to need to have a healthy, nervous respect for that car if you are going to buy it and actually drive it.

I have a feeling there are going to be a lot more of THESE GUYS on the road as these blue collar supercars keep getting more and more powerful.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 06-06-2014

How much rear tire do they shove under those things? And how many hoops do you have to jump through to turn off the traction control. My old neighbor's M6 would be unmanagable in 1st gear if it didn't have an electronic nanny to look after you. When you stand on it the light just comes on until you shift to 2nd, then it meters out a bit more power for you, and so on. In that car you can only turn down the traction control, it won't let you completely defeat it.

But yeah, I agree. They should include a training session when they sell cars like that just to scare the shit out of the new owners and make sure they respect their machines.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 06-06-2014

So the Vette is turning into the Viper.

Is this ironic coming from a guy who drives a 550hp sled on the street every day?

HAULN-SS Wrote:Is this ironic coming from a guy who drives a 550hp sled on the street every day?
The new Z06 will have 200+ ftlbs more torque than my car at a much lower rpm. With drivetrain loss my car realistically is putting down closer to high 300s (450ish hp) at the wheels. The stock mapping on the XFR even set on TRAC TC makes the car pretty driveable in lower gears. A lot of the throttle is dialed back for most of the rpm range with stock tuning (apparently you never reach true WOT), which is how the XF//RS and XJR get 40+ more horsepower. These engines were run at 700-800 hp during testing so there is plenty left in them if you wanted to see those kinds of dyno numbers but it would be ridiculous to have that much power on the street in a RWD car.

A pulley'd and tuned XFR is up closer to 500hp at the wheels / 420ish torque with a reasonable power band. I doubt I will swap pulleys but I would consider a tune if I could pick up another 30-40hp and shift a little of the power to the left for passing punch.

Tyson's Corner Fiat will be getting one, sure would be nice to go check out a 4C =D Won't be able to buy a car like that for the foreseeable future though =(

I'm mad that they're gonna be in Fredericksburg but not Richmond. I like this news though! I hope they bring other Aflas over other than just the 4C.

...I'm not even gonna fix my typo lol

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 06-10-2014

I don't think we'll get anything but the 4C and 8C. Shame though, I would buy a Brera so freaking hard if we had them here.
