Are you double tapping the lock button to open the cam?

You call Google?
I'm not sure what I'm doing to gets it into that state, but it may have something to do with the double tap to open the camera.

No, I haven't called Google yet. Been to busy with the other lemons in my life.

I'm with J Ray on this one. I have a Pixel 2 and I love it. I wondered if I should have gotten the XL but I haven't had any problems with it in a year. So I guess I should be happy. Smile

Taylor, I'm assuming if you've had issues you've seen videos or read articles about tips to make the phone efficient and things to do to allow for a better user experience? There are some small things that matter for folks who are really attentive to detail, like reducing animation speeds for opening apps, etc. (developer options for configurations).

RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - RawrImAMonster - 11-28-2018

I haven't had any real problems with my Pixel 2 yet (other than not being able to find the headphone jack). I'll most likely stick with the pixel for my next phone too. Apple isn't doing anything exciting these days and I don't like the Samsung bullshit they stick on their phones.

Unrelated, but whatever waterproofing the Pixel 2 has seems to work well. I accidentally dropped it in the pool once and jumped in with it in my pocket another time and it didn't affect it at all. This is the only phone I've ever had in the water before so it's a good thing that actually worked.

Ars Technica: Google's cellular service gets rebranded, offers support for iPhones.

Didn't someone on here have Project Fi and had a ton of issues with the service? Was it Rex?

The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - JustinG - 11-28-2018

I had issues, but then after cancelling realized it was 100% due to my phone at the time (Nexus 6p, fuck you Huawei). Cause the same shit happened when I took that phone to VZW.

Now back on Fi, Pixel XL and 3 have been fine for me in my area.

If you are rural, it won't work. TMO, US Cell, or Sprint need to be healthy in your main calling areas.

RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - WRXtranceformed - 11-28-2018

Still no issues with my S8, it's an absolute powerhouse and you can turn off or delete most of the bloatware nowadays. The stock Samsung apps for critical stuff like email and texting are fine so there's no worries there.

Since we're on the gripe train about Apple vs. Android, can someone please tell me why iPhones suck so bad at connecting to external hardware when it's not something that Apple built? Before I get a bunch of replies of "well my iBoner has always connected to everything you crazy", objectively over the last year I have probably been asked to help at least 5 different people with iPhones connect to some kind of speaker or smart-something and every single one of them has been a colossal pain to set up or just flat out didn't work. Within a matter of a minute or two I can get my S8 paired to them. I'm also excluding from this the multiples of people who have told me that they have issues pairing and using their brand new iPhones with their brand new car interfaces.

My s7 has been fine besides screen breaking which was my fault. Replacement has been mostly fine. I can't stand Apple. Im sure I could eventually get use to it but coming from Android, everything seems completely counter intuitive on Apple.

Samsung is my safe space so I'll probably be going with the s10 when it drops next year or maybe wait till it goes on sale since this replacement s7 (that vzw gave me for free cause I made it seem like a manufacturer issue even 2 years after getting it) isn't that old now. Battery still kind of sucks with heavy use.

I also Fi and I've been pretty well satisfied with it.  I've had the Nexus 6 and the Pixel 2 and I've had no problems. They sent me a bum SIM card when I first got it and I had my Nexus 6 die on me just after 1 year ownership. But both times FI customer service was on top of it and had me up and running within a day or two.  If there's no TMO, US Cell or Sprint around you are screwed, but I've found that typically that isn't a problem, and these days WIFI is regularly available to piggy back off of.  Apparently, my place of employment is the only place on earth that doesn't have  WIFI but we are hoping to rectify that situation soon.

Just got this email....

Introducing Google Fi

After 3 years of growing with you, our Project Fi community, we're excited to announce some big news: Project Fi is now Google Fi. Your service and billing won't be impacted, but you'll notice a new name, logo, and look-and-feel in places like your Google Fi app and your
Google Fi account.

You can now also bring most Android phones and iPhones to Google Fi. While these phones get most of the Google Fi features you know and love, only phones designed for Fi, like the Nexus 5X you have, unlock all of Google Fi's unique features, including seamless switching between cellular networks and automatic connection to secure Wi-Fi hotspots. Since you're already on the best Google Fi experience, you don't need to take any action for your own account. Feel free to share the news with friends or family who might be interested in bringing a phone to Google Fi.

Finally, if you're looking for a new phone, we're celebrating our big day with one-day offers on all phones designed for Fi, from the Pixel 3 to the Moto G6. Everyone is eligible for these offers—whether you're looking for a phone for yourself or know someone you'd like to refer to Google Fi.

Today's update is just the start, and we can't wait to bring you more from Google Fi. As always, please reach out if you have any questions—we're here for you 24/7.

More iOS hate. Why is the back button all the way on the top left of some apps.

What are you trying to connect to that's so difficult? Can't say I've had issues. The only goofy one was making my iPhone play music (over USB) to my Range Rover. The car didn't recognize it (as an iPod, old infotainment) because I didn't have any music stored in the Apple music app. Once I had any single song in Music.app, it would let it stay connected so I could just use Spotify or whatever, and have steering wheel controls work for whichever app was playing. That's a LR problem given the old protocol it uses, though.

Hell, with the right adapters/creativity you can hook up a whole bunch of USB devices and they are supported, too.

Never had a pairing issue here.

My iPhone 8 took 5 minutes to find my new bluetooth headphones yesterday.
