The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - JPolen01 - 10-27-2018 My old JMU roommate just picked one up. Let me know if you want me to connect you. The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - JustinG - 10-27-2018 I'm enjoying it, went from an OG XL to a regular 3. The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Senor_Taylor - 10-27-2018 No concerns with the LG screen? I don't need or want the XL but the problems from the LG screens on the Pixel 2 are on my mind. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - JustinG - 10-27-2018 I don't see any issues with it, it's def a nice screen. The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Sijray21 - 10-27-2018 Honestly the gripes about the 2xl screens are overblown. That being said, I do like the 2 screen over the 2 XL screen. I'm sure the 3s are better though. I have a LG V35 which has a later evolution of the 2XL screen and its flawless and eye popping. The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Sully - 10-28-2018 Laptop that is capable of checking email, browsing online and paying bills. $500 or less for old person (my dad). Maybe a tablet like device if it's close enough to computer I guess. Go. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Apoc - 10-28-2018 I'm a chromebook believer. I have the ASUS C302, which now supports android apps (pretty well too). Battery lasts forever and the keyboard is a decent size. https://amzn.to/2JlxQMd https://www.techradar.com/reviews/asus-chromebook-flip-c302 RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - JustinG - 10-28-2018 This, I have an Acer R13. The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Senor_Taylor - 10-28-2018 Okay, bought the Pixel 3 XL today. Jumping from regular OG pixel. Screen looks great. The XL is honestly too large and I should have gotten the normal size one. The notch is not bad and I don't get the complaints The camera hardware and software is PHENOMENAL. My one complaint is the bezel is so small that it's hard to hold the phone without touching the screen. The speakers are VERY good and really loud as well, not that I'll ever use them. There are no other software improvements since my old phone was also running pie, but it's really nice to have everything run so swiftly. I wouldn't put it past Google to have slowed down my old phone with that OS update because that's when everything went to shit. The vibration for the tactile feedback is nice. Another thing is, a large complaint from reviewers is the glass back, and I don't agree. It feels totally fine. I'll keep everyone posted. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - JustinG - 10-28-2018 Yeah I went from OG XL to 3, smaller form but same screen size, sign me up. I'm glad I didn't stick with the XL. The glass back feels no different from my metal back OG. People just wanna find shit to complain about. Not to mention the scratch tests.....who the fuck expects ANY glass to stay perfect when you rake keys down it as hard as you can. RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - HAULN-SS - 10-28-2018 Glass backed phones suck. Every one ive enter had eventually gets a broken back. Awesome to have to worry about that RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Ken - 10-29-2018 (10-28-2018, 04:11 PM)Apoc Wrote: I'm a chromebook believer. I'm not a huge fan but my mother in law has one, uses Android and took to it very easily. My father in law though, doesn't use Android and absolutely loathes the thing. Alternatively, Surface Go - will be a hair above $500 price point. I got one at release and love it. RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Apoc - 10-29-2018 I don't think the Surface Go is right if he's looking for a laptop first, tablet second. This configuration sucks for use in one's lap if a physical keyboard is desired.
The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Senor_Taylor - 10-29-2018 My mom got a surface and struggles with it. I don't really recommend them for "ease of use" for parents. There's nothing unique to it unless it's the aforementioned laptop usage. My mom did just fine with Surface Pro 3 and now her Surface Go. The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Sully - 10-29-2018 He'll never use it in his lap but I feel like he'd be more receptive to a more traditional physical keyboard. He uses Android but not very well but I think it's pretty much a toss up between that or the windows os (which I also don't think he's ever used tiles or anything) although I guess you can revert to a more traditional view (sorry never really used anything past windows 7) I'm a little concerned about him adapting to either one with him in Florida and me up here, I will have limited time to get him adapted during the holidays and I am not familiar with either platform to try and walk him through things over the phone. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - BLINGMW - 10-29-2018 2nd the R13 (last year's model for $294) or the CTL NL6D. Might as well get a touchscreen model. Got the R13 for for my dad and both my son and I have NL6D's (mine for everyday work use). Seems like CTL may have recently stopped making that model though. If your dad is used to Win10, great, otherwise screw that Surface. I use TeamViewer to help out family, if you need something like that. Easy way to remote in and help out, rather than super frustrating phone calls. RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Sully - 11-18-2018 If anyone stumbles upon a good deal on a chromebook or a win 10 laptop in the next week or so, please share. Looking for something that flips around to be used as a tablet and probably 13" min screen size but bigger might even be better. $500 max budget but closer to $300 might be better. |
