I'm moving my insurance from National General to Allied to save about 63 a month. That brings me down to 86 a month for full coverage on the Xterra and M3 so I will be saving around $700 a year.

National General was the best I could find when I had my Evo and was younger, but it looks like other companies can beat them now. My aunt (insurance agent) says National General tends to be good for younger drivers with sports cars.

Mine just got jacked as well. My car insurance does this as well and I pulled mine down by 40% just by switching... Gotta switch my homeowners now. The "bundle" they make a big about is bullshit. $35 discount? really? So mine are separate as it is a better deal...for now.

Allstate just jacked my home insurance from $1100 to $1500...in one year. Ha!

Switched to geico and back down to $1,004.

Oh and on that note, christ fairfax county home taxes are getting insane.

State Farm underwriting came back at a lower rate than expected for the named personal articles policy which was nice. So our homeowner's insurance (personal contents and everything from the studs in since our HOA covers studs out) and insurance on my wife's wedding ring is only $594 for the year, which I think was lower than LM in the first place...nice!

Moving to richmond and increasing my mileage by 5 miles one way has jumped my premium and extra $70 a month for a fucking $8,000 Mazda3. I'm literally paying $2,200 a year for this thing. I'm still on the Hartford. Clean record and everything but still getting fucked in ways that don't end in a happy ending.... I don't get it.

Looks like I can save around 400 with state farm since I have/had their renter's insurance. Not sure if I should make the change or just stay with the insurance I have now for a the few more months I drive this car. I don't want to imagine what a $30k truck is going to cost.....

I've never seen a reason to stick it out with an insurance carrier if you could save a significant amount of money. We change up carriers every 6 months - year. It's a little bit of an administrative pain but I have saved money every time. We have actually been with Esurance for about a year now because their underwriting principles seem to be more lax....their rates have been literally half that of any other carrier for us in NC.

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - rherold9 - 07-13-2016

I mean I would be fine if it was like 100-200 difference but 600 extra... I mean Hartford has always been more but damn. I don't want to constantly change as that just sucks but I feel like I'm getting actually fucked for once as my vehicle value does not warrant this high of an insurance cost.... the funny part is I just got a quote from state farm on a truck with 4 times the value of my car with a little bit more mileage a year and it's the same cost as what Hartford is charging me now.

Yeah man that's a lot of money to save. It's not really that big of a deal to change insurance providers, the longest part of it is researching every carrier regularly to find out who has the best rates on apples to apples coverage. You just set up the start date of your new insurance, pay the first premium and then call your other carrier to cancel effective on that date. They will usually send you a prorated premium refund if one is due so that will soften the blow of paying the new policy's premium.

I mean I'm hoping to only have two more months until I have the truck. Is it worth the change?

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 07-13-2016

I dunno did you price it out for the potential truck too? I would imagine if it is that much cheaper now, the new policy would also be cheaper with the new carrier that it would be with Hartford. It's a lot easier to add / drop vehicles from a policy than to change providers altogether, so that could be something you look into.

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - rherold9 - 07-13-2016

The cost for the truck is right around 2200 a year for 100/300 or 2000 for 50/100 on State Farm because the renter's insurance bundle and save crap. The cost or my car right now on Hartford is 2200 a year for 50/100 that I had changed to monthly for the time being since I had the policy address changed.

100/300 is a good level of coverage, I wouldn't sacrifice that for less than $20 per month. You could also make some calls and shop around other carriers

Most definitely that's what I'll be getting. The only reason I don't have it now is because my car has been worth under 10k for a two years now.

There are companies that do the research for you and switch it for you automatically..find one

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 08-03-2016

Got a quote for switching our home state over to SC...rate almost doubled for the same coverage. Guess daddy is insurance shopping again :/

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Senor_Taylor - 08-03-2016

I went to my agent to get comprehensive put on the Miata. I was quoted that it would drop my rate a considerable amount. Then it become apparent that the only way I could get comprehensive was to drop liability. That means the car would be illegal to drive, but at least if a tree fell on it, I'd be covered! Why would a company even offer that? To get full coverage would have added $100 a month.

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - davej - 08-03-2016

that's really odd. I always had liability and no comp on my high school cars, never heard of the other way around.

So after trading the '13 Hyundai worth 8k for the Dodge Ram worth 25k...our insurance went down $150/year. I'll take that.

Yup, makes no sense. My truck is as much as my Mazda3 was. But I have double the coverage for the truck..... I think it may be because if you wreck or get hit in a truck it isn't as much damage as a car?

Holy shit, do rates just fall out of the bottom when you get married?

I can insure the both of us, and both cars, for 30% less than what I was paying for myself and one car. Doesnt help that my rates had been hiked up year over year with Liberty Mutual.
