Yeah left that out. My bad. Buy once play on xbox one or Windows 10.
Awesome.

Just watched the PS4 E3 event. Kind of weak as it was only trailers, but new God of War and the biker zombie game looked pretty epic

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - SlimKlim - 07-05-2016

I picked up Witcher 3 because I wandered into GameStop at the mall while Lauren was pulling off some compounding-coupon scheme to get a new pair of jeans. Played it all day yesterday and got pretty sucked into it. The universe it is set in is like a combination of LotR and Game of Thrones. Or just a considerably more violent Skyrim. I think the actual gameplay itself could still use some improvement, just feels like the character movements and interacting with objects is a bit glitchy, but otherwise it's pretty awesome. Approaching enemies at speed on horseback and using the momentum to cleave them right in two is satisfying enough to forgive any rough edges in the game mechanics.

I also saw that Battlefield 1 is NOT an Xbone/PC exclusive, maybe Xbox just gets first access or something, so that's good. Battlefield 1, No Man's Sky and the new Star Wars game are the 3 titles I'm looking forward to this year.

The Witcher does look dope but I just don't have time to invest in a game like that. Already invested too much time into Destiny.

I did however just pick up a Xbox One and Forza 6. Haven't played much but it already looks like a big step up in refinement from the last time I played Forza (Forza 4) I think. I'm really pumped to finally be able to drive VIR in game. Still not sure if I'll buy a G920 for it. Might see if I can rig up an adapter to go with the stand I have for my Fanatec.

If you do buy a wheel I would avoid the G920, from what I have read it's essentially the G29 or whatever with a new skin and the special chip or whatever that permits it to work with the new consoles. It doesn't use brushless motors or belts so it's going to be louder and less refined than a Thrustmaster or Fanatec.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 07-06-2016

Fanatec's XB1 wheelbase is $600, then you've got to buy a wheel for another $250+. Way more than I'm willing to spend. My impression of the XB1 Thrustmasters were that they were on the chincy side but maybe I'll take another look. The Logitech looks better built than the base model TMX wheel, although the Thrustmaster is about $100 cheaper. To get the nice Thrustmaster Ferrari 599XX style wheel I'd have to spend over $500 again.

Yeah I wouldn't get the TMX, it looks like the TX uses more or less the same servo as my wheel, and you can get it with the "Ferrari" wheel on Amazon for $360 which isn't too far off from the G920.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 07-06-2016

Yeah the Thrustmaster setup with the 458 wheel is the first one that came out for XB1 and a number of people had some quality issues with theirs. I'd look at the newer Thrustmaster stuff but I think it prices me out.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - SlimKlim - 07-06-2016

Interesting, I'm like 99% sure it's the same servo as my T300RS, just with the XB1 specific chip in it or whatever and I haven't heard of any quality issues with them.

That being said I had a TON of software teething issues that could've been mistaken for problems with the hardware but were actually due to the game settings. One of the setups I was trying in P.cars had the force values cranked up so high it was causing the wheel to go into a failsafe mode and stop giving any sort of force feedback whatsoever, but once I managed to find a configuration that makes everything happy it has been smooth sailing.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - SlimKlim - 08-10-2016

I bought No Man's Sky yesterday and got a few hours in.

It's mind blowing. It completely wrecks your sense of scale the first time you take off from a planet and realize that you've only left one of the 18 quintillion planets in the game. I could play for the rest of my life and not see 0.00000000001% of the in game world.

It is a very slowly paced game, you are a lone explorer dropped somewhere in the universe with a broken ship that you have to fix. Once that is done, you are free to explore without direction, or you can follow the "path the the center" of the universe, or you can follow the "path of the Atlas." I'm currently doing the latter because it seems like it'll unlock some extra resources eventually.

The game is basically just exploration. You can earn money by discovering new plants and animals, and you can mine resources to power your ship and spacesuit, and to sell them for money. You'll occasionally end up in scraps with other ships, or these sentinel things that fly around planets, or maybe running from an aggressive animal, but it is most definitely not a combat game. So if the idea of just aimlessly exploring is appealing to you I think you'd love the game, but if it sounds boring to you, and you don't like games like minecraft, you'd probably hate it.

Personally I love it, it's very relaxing to play. Lots of pretty scenery and a nice, soothing soundtrack. This is much more the kind of experience I'm looking for when I hit the couch at the end of the day, not some multiplayer shooter where I'm getting screamed at by 12 year olds coked out on Mt. Dew Code Red because I haven't been practicing all summer like they have.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 08-10-2016

Nice good to hear, I was waiting on some friends to give me the low down before I pulled the trigger. It doesn't sound like it would be my cup of tea, especially with the final Destiny 1 expansion dropping in about a month, but maybe I will change my tune if everyone says it's good.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - SlimKlim - 08-10-2016

I really think it's going to be a love it or hate it kind of thing. Personally Destiny and similar games have zero appeal to me, so we're probably on dramatically different gaming wavelengths.

Think of it like a gigantic, much more beautiful version of Minecraft, except you can't build anything, you're just constantly drifting through the galaxy. I know one of the original goals of the game was to have a settling/city building aspect to it in addition to the exploration, mining and trading, but the challenge of just getting the full-scale procedural universe right was so great they just had to bin that part of the game.

I am really curious to see if there will be a patch/DLC, or just a sequel that takes the same environment, adds the building/crafting element and a better mapping system to allow players to build cities and interact with each other in them.

I do wish they had included some sort of map that shows your progress across the universe because its just hard to get a sense of scale of what you're doing. I've jumped maybe 4 star systems from my starting point and I literally could not get back to where I started if you gave me a million years to look for it. The "galaxy map" is like an interactive version of the night sky, all you can do is pick a star and warp to it, the only real indication of its location is the distance from the center of the universe. I started about ~179,820 lightyears out and I've whittled it down to about 179,790.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 08-10-2016

Yeah the big world thing is no issue but if it's just aimless exploration it will get put down pretty quick by me. It is also not as appealing to me without some true element of PVP

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 08-22-2016

Just good ole Iron Banner lag. We think Aika-Love may have actually been lag switching and causing all of us to glitch out, but my internet connection is rock solid so it's definitely not me Tongue This has become pretty normal now in Destiny, hoping they fix it for D2:

But, we did have a few fun bubble bro sessions. This one is about 7 minutes but shows how we usually dominate (note how their team just sat down and gave up in the hallways at the end):

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - SlimKlim - 08-22-2016

To follow up on No Man's Sky after having some time with it:

This really should've been an open beta. The developers over-sold and over-sold the game, demo'ing and promising features they hadn't built yet. Then Sony got involved and held them to their launch date (sort of) and the result was an unfinished product. That being said, I don't regret buying it. It feels like I am demoing the next generation of video games.

From what I've seen it looks like they plan to continue supporting this game and will be adding content and features. If they actually stick to their word, I think this game has the potential to be the new Minecraft. Back when that game was launched people didn't get what it was supposed to be and you couldn't really do much in it, now people have built entire cities in it, or functioning computers, somehow.

If they build on it to add the fully destructible worlds they originally promised, along with some sort of base-building elements, I think it'd really find it's stride as a chill exploration/building game.

That looks like deliberate network switching to me. You might wanna check that guy's stats for shenanigans cause that is egregious. Only thing missing from that video is the ESPN Not Top Ten theme song.

I feel like players need to stop letting themselves get worked into a hype frenzy based on vague promises from developers. Maybe it's because I'm a programmer but when I read all of the hype about this huge procedural universe and how awesome it would be I kinda thought that it can't possibly be as awesome as people want it to be just based on the size of the studio developing it, much less the size of the technical challenge.

For an indie developer though I think Hello Games did a great job, and hopefully they'll have the resources to realize some of the potential of what they've created. Only thing is I hope gamers can have some patience. Building out with a small team is hard and takes time.

I just kinda shake my head at the pattern I keep seeing play out. People get super hyped on something, waayyy beyond what the developer promised. The game arrives and it doesn't meet hype. People rage about how the developers lied to them and the game is shit. Then it's, 'this next game is gonna be so much better than [fill in blank], I'm never gonna play that shit game again, [new game] is gonna be awesome!' Then back to game not meeting hype and people being all salty. I understand that people are all disappointed when developer says they're trying to X and they don't get 100% of that stuff but development is messy and stuff gets cut all the time. Getting salty about it is a waste of time.

The next generation of video games is going to be VR, hence the new Playstation dropping next month

Thinking PlayStation may have pulled a Dreamcast here. There is no way they have a powerful enough GPU in that to do anything that great in VR (rumors are it's basically double the current GPU.) Whereas I'm sure the Xbox One Scorpio will reap the benefits of whatever AMD has up its sleeve for it's answer to NVIDIA's Pascal architecture. The year will be worth the wait if VR is your thing.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 08-22-2016

You would have to literally pay me to buy another Microsoft gaming system. Their hardware, specs and sales have been lagging behind Sony for a while now. Would be interesting to see them catch up so that it keeps spurring more innovation. The New PS is mostly a refresh but is also supposed to be 4K capable

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Apoc - 08-22-2016

We are years away from VR, if ever. If the porn industry hasn't monetized it yet, there's no money in it for anyone else. They've been on the leading edge of most major home entertainment tech shifts.
