The new pixel is dropping the headphone jack. I'm extremely disappointed. I guess now I need to hope my pixel lasts long enough for the Pixel 3 comes out and they inevitably realize their mistake.
Or maybe we're just being resistant to change and Bluetooth is the way of the future?

Oh it definitely is. I was reminded of that just today when on a drive with my co-worker and his brand new iPhone and our 2017 Honda Fit kept playing "let's randomly transfer his call to speakerphone every two min or so, even once the user turns the radio off". It was extra neato when I had to save us from veering off the highway while he was struggling to push every button he could find to make it stop.
And it's worked so great on my soundbar for a year that I bought a chromecast audio to hook up to it instead!
Wow that reminds me... I returned a very well reviewed Plantronics bluetooth headset a year ago because it was almost totally useless. Not quite sure how all the 4 and 5 star reviews didn't start with "works great more than 50% of the time!".
It's *only* been around for 15 years, maybe it's just starting to get good!

Omg, I just realized: How cool would it be to use BT for brake, steering, throttle in a car! Then, when autopilot on my 2018 Model 3 gave up due to unexpected baby on the roadway, I'd have mere seconds to re-pair the steering wheel!

My phone decided, mid-call yesterday, to transfer the call away from the Range Rover sound system to my fucking Android watch. I had no conceivable idea how to push the call back to the car, so I had to put it on speakerphone and deal with it until I hung up.
At least iOS gives you a selection menu within the call to direct audio. Android (or at least Samsung) is super confusing in that regard.
Not sure what I want to do for a new phone. I hate my S7 Active enough to want to replace it, but the iPhone X doesn't do a thing for me and I'm not sure about the Pixel 2. Have been looking at the LG V30 but it sounds like they have a spotty track record. At least the Pixel would be fairly solid from what I gather.

ehh I don't really have a problem with losing the headphone jack. If I am listening to music in the car it is either through bluetooth out of convenience or my phone is plugged in via a lightning cable so I get music and charging at the same time. It's magic! When I am at the gym I don't want to worry about getting the headphone cord tangled in weights so I use plantronics bluetooth earbuds.
No headphone jack does add the hassle of adapters for certain stereos and whatnot, but oh well.

I'm happy with my iPhone 8.
Its faster, it takes nicer photos, the battery lasts longer than the 6 it replaced. iOS 11 has some quirks that I'm not thrilled about like the control center fiasco, the latest podcast app is awful but, I'm glad I switched. I'm balls deep in the Apple ecosystem though.

Sounds like you may be soured on the Galaxy, but the S8 is significantly better than the S7 (I have both). Bixby is the only lame thing about it. Overall though I have no problems connecting every day to my Bluetooth work headset, either vehicle, etc. The only time it gets weird is if my wife and I are driving both of our cars near each other and I have Bluetooth on. I've had my phone connect to her car instead of mine automatically. I don't know how you fix that though and it's a rare situation.

I'm not soured like "never buy one again" GM (show me on the doll where the Denali touched you) but there have been enough little dissatisfiers with Samsung's Android experience that I don't know if I could stomach upgrading to an S8.
The biggest draw of the Pixel 2 is the fact that it's un-mucked-with Android that will get updates the soonest. The LG V30 has a headphone jack and is up there as a flagshippy phone. But, same issue as Samsung in that updates come slower and the added layer of LG's spotty reliability in the past. Hrpmh.
If I went back to iOS, I think I'd have a hard time justifying an iPhone 8 over a 7. Not sure the cost/benefit works when I really just want something that is a solid texting/calling/Facebooking machine with a good camera.
Guhhh. iOS has iMessage but Android has Google Photos, which is super slick.

Yeah, after having the pure android experience with the Pixel and the wonderful google photos integration, I don't think I can go back to any other version of it. As far as the headphone jack removal, I think this is worse than Apple's decisions for one reason. Apple has, for the longest time, had a way to charge and play music from the same port, and this is supported in basically every car on the planet as of 2012. Other phones don't have this. If you buy a Pixel 2 and want to listen to music, BT is the ONLY way to do it, unless you buy whatever dongle they have, but even then you're not getting the nice interface the iPhone has with docks/head units. It's just an aux cord.

The thing that I find stupid is that the phones dropped the headphone jack, which I dont really care about, but I cant use the same set of headphones to plug into my laptop now. So & adapters & adapters & adapters & adapters....

I've never had an issue switching my phone from the Bluetooth to the phone during a call. On my s7, once the screen comes on during a call there's a little icon, I think where speaker phone normally is that you press and it swtices. Or something like that. Idr for sure but it definitely wasn't hard. My radio sucks so I don't use it for calls and I normally don't have my phone connected but occasionally for music.
But yea, casting is way better than Bluetooth. I was at a BBQ/party last weekend and they had the music coming through from a phone on Bluetooth and like every song, it would get low and beep because he was getting texts or calls. Maybe you'll be able to cast from Bluetooth one day.
I want to get the new s8, checked out the pixel and it doesn't really do anything for me I think. If only they'd added wireless charging. But at this point, I almost want to wait for the s9. The deals on the s8 were better at launch then they are now ($15/mo back at launch I think)
They should be better by now with competition from Apple and Google and how long it's been out.
I some how shattered my camera lens two days ago and my replacement Ebay back glass has been shattered since like a week after I put it on (yes even with a bumper case over it) so I ordered those and one they get here, I guess I'll decide if I want to trade up for a new phone. The s7 is actually fine but it could save me money on my bill to upgrade because the monthly payment would be less

Google Photos is on iOS now and works flawlessly. I don't know why you would buy an iPhone 7 over the 8. Save a couple dollars maybe? Would rather have the nicer screen/camera for a couple bucks a month. Now the X does absolutely nothing for me. I cannot justify that money for a larger screen and multiple cameras. The camera on my 7 is more than adequate.

I've done a quick search and can't find a solution. Is there a way to backup photo albums with names other than camera? I can see device folders like downloads and screenshots but I have a couple albums I've created separately like recipes or projects that I've wanted grouped together separately but I can't see a way to back them up on Google photos.

I just started using it. I was against it cause my contacts on Google have always been a disaster.
But I'm starting to worry about losing my photos. Almost all my photos, albeit most not that important, are on my phone. Including ones from previous phones. Im just worried about losing my phone or it breaking past the point of recovery. I'd back them to my computer but it's a piece of junk and they're not much safer there. I keep meaning to get an external HDD but I just haven't. And you could still lose that in situations (fire, theft) so the cloud seems the easiest.

Photos are pretty much the only thing on my phone I can't replace. I am out of iCloud storage and not planning to pay for more so Google Photos was the easy button. I see multiple albums under the Albums tab in the app.

I have 19 photos on my phone.
Everything worthwhile goes to social media or, occasionally, uploaded to Google drive. I back my phone up twice a year, but that's more about settings and music than anything.

We have a tiny USB hard drive that wifey uploads all of her photos to. It sits in the safe when we aren't backing anything up, in fact she just backed up all of her photos last night.
Even if my phone bricks, I still have a massive removable memory card in my S8 that all of my photos automatically are saved to. So there's also that benefit of Android
