It's actually a car that hasn't moved in 3 months and has tickets on it in my complex. Getting in contact with the owner to see if anything is wrong with it and if I can get it for like $500. Zach just got a carport today so I have space for it while I fix it if it needs anything.
Probably won't work out in my favor, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Mom's brother lives in Washington state, I've never met him and she hasn't spoken to him in 15+ years. He passed away Friday and owns a 2003 Ranger. I might be road-tripping it home to clean up and sell but wanted a bit of an idea of what I was getting into.
Looks like a gold 2003 Ranger XLT SuperCab, 4.0/5-speed auto/2WD with 147k reported in 2010. He lived on a small island so I can't imagine a ton of miles were put on it. Joey got me on the Carfax and it looks clean, two owners and no crashes reported.

Sorry for the loss (regardless of family situation). That sounds like a miserable road trip vehicle. I would think it would be easier and wayyyy cheaper on the wallet to fly out and dump it at carmax.

Oh, yeah, I've done that road trip and it's pretty terrible. The Midwest is awful to drive through, especially after navigating the Rockies.

Any road trip is fun with the right people. I'm going to be making a road trip from Virginia to Birmingham to Denver and back pulling an enclosed trailer and I'm super excited about it! Embrace the story that comes with a good road trip. Additionally, I'll give you $500 for the truck.

Eh, not really feeling it. Four days in an old Ranger that reeks of cig smoke isn't terribly appealing. I suggested just paying to have it shipped, it'd be more than the plane ticket, but maybe not much more than ticket + gas + hotel rooms.

Yeah, I've never driven cross-country before so I figure it'll at least make for a good story. 15-year-old Ford truck with minimal amenities, in unknown condition with fuckitwhoknows miles on the odometer, for a 2900 mile drive? What could go wrong?! Thankfully I have some friends at various points along the route, so I could stop and stay with them, and help wouldn't be too far away if anything broke. It's on the stock 15" wheels so tires are easy to find. I'll probably have an oil change done and just go, unless the tires are super bald or something. The 4.0 is a timing chain motor so no worries about a belt that's old.
Taylor, I'd bring Joey out but I fear he'd just find a place to live in Seattle and not want to come home. Also, 110 in a Ranger sounds impossible and terrifying.

I drove across in a 94 civic this time of year but took the southern route. Northern route will be interesting in Febs.
