Yeah, I did it one time. Never again. Internet FTMFW. - Apoc - 11-10-2008 Sales tax is for suckers. Also, I work with a few people whose household is >$200k and their houses are straight ballin'. - PDenbigh - 12-11-2008 Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, plus the condition of the economy. The Light at the End of the Tunnel has been turned off. We apologize for the inconvenience. - Feersty - 12-11-2008 Recycling industry going down the crapper. That is what gets me. No surprise that a lot of the focus of the bill is growing government, not providing any stimulus at all. Any comments? I, of course, think the bailouts and stimulus have to stop. They want to pass it quickly before the economy starts to turn around so they can take credit for it. At least the Cato Institute and hundreds of economists agree. But facts and educated opinions are irrelevant, the dems can say and do whatever the hell they want now. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.cato.org/fiscalreality">http://www.cato.org/fiscalreality</a><!-- m --> "There is no disagreement that we need action by our government, a recovery plan that will help to jumpstart the economy." ÔÇö PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK OBAMA, JANUARY 9 , 2009 With all due respect Mr. President, that is not true. Notwithstanding reports that all economists are now Keynesians and that we all support a big increase in the burden of government, we do not believe that more government spending is a way to improve economic performance. More government spending by Hoover and Roosevelt did not pull the United States economy out of the Great Depression in the 1930s. More government spending did not solve Japan's "lost decade" in the 1990s. As such, it is a triumph of hope over experience to believe that more government spending will help the U.S. today. To improve the economy, policy makers should focus on reforms that remove impediments to work, saving, investment and production. Lower tax rates and a reduction in the burden of government are the best ways of using fiscal policy to boost growth. - Evan - 01-29-2009 remember all that "Failed Bush economic policy" talk and mudslinging that won Obama the election? He must have really meant "Not only am I going to keep the 'stimulus' going, Im going to do more of it!" hope and change baby! - Evan - 01-29-2009 BLINGMW Wrote:But facts and educated opinions are irrelevant, the dems can say and do whatever the hell they want now. related politico story <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0109/18108.html">http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0109/18108.html</a><!-- m --> Quote:"I won." hope and change - Dave - 01-29-2009 Evan Wrote:Anybody who believes he would be different from any other politician is entirely too naive.BLINGMW Wrote:"I won." - Ginger - 01-29-2009 None of us believed it... but it's what got him elected. Yes. It's filthy. And representative of how much of the population falls into the "lowest common denominator" field intellectually. And for the record, no half educated economist not being paid to repeat party lines believes that *any* government* spending would solve this. - BLINGMW - 01-29-2009 Evan Wrote:http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0109/18108.htmlheh, thanks for the story, my coworker was pretty disappointed to read it Ginger Wrote:None of us believed it... but it's what got him elected.I've got at least a couple coworkers and friends that did! I'm already drinking plenty to make myself dumber, is there a pill I should take or something to make me ok with this? You can pick out a lot of government waste but you can also find a lot of good. It's not all on the Dems. Republicans might publicly be against it but in the end, money into their district is going to benefit them too so they're not going to really fight it. Long story short, you guys should check out the planet money podcast. It's really informative and breaks down complex financial tools. To anyone who does end up listening to it for period of time, let me know if you can detect any sort of political bias. I honestly can't but who knows, I could be communist. http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podcast_detail.php?siteId=94411890 |
