I think we had this discussion on here somewhere. All he does is cobble together mismatched panels and create "art". His taste is terrible (See Sharwerks/Walker tuned GT2).

I kept scraping my knuckles on the dash and telling myself it really wasn't annoying. Well, the shop owner talked me into putting a spacer on. I decided to go pretty big with 2" 'cause meat hands. This thing was $18 on Amazon and appears to be decently made... until it snaps and I die in a fire. At least my knuckles will be in good shape.

There were two older Porsche guys at the neighborhood car show last weekend talking shit about putting a 2.7 in a 912. I overheard a comment about one of them being a "purist." No one gave a shit about the 912 and the 2L until like three years ago, when everyone realized 911 prices weren't going to come down any time soon. That basically summarizes why the car was priced where it was - no one wanted an outlaw.

Chris, are the brakes on your car original? I feel like the master cylinder is too big for what's on the other end.

What shocks are on the car? It might also be time for a refresh of those with a little more rebound, once your wallet recovers from tail & tint.

The car runs much better if I let it warm up a few times a week, even when it's not being driven. I went out to start it last week and the thing couldn't hold an idle and would only run after the first minute or two if I kept the throttle open slightly. I assumed this was because the battery was weak we got some weather that's very cold for us. Nope... it was the final death cries of the battery (that's been in there since I bought the car). Even on a battery tender, it will only manage one half of one crank now. 

I've had a yellow top on my shelf for awhile, but haven't put it in the car because I need a custom battery tray fabricated. I forgot to ask the shop to do it when it was there last. I've got free roadside, so I may just have it towed. I may also try and hook the optima up and somehow bungee cord it in place to not have to deal with a tow company. The shop is <2 miles from home - what could go wrong??

I'm gonna have them look at the master cylinder and shocks while it's there. I'm done "upgrading" the car for awhile due to house shit, but I wouldn't remind a better refined driving experience on city streets.

May want to ask for a little more ride height, if they're in there for the shocks. Not sure how involved that is with your goofy torsion bars.

should just be a crank on the adjuster at the end.  at least that's how it is with a lot of modern SUV's that use 'em.

sounds like your battery is FUBAR'd.  i've killed mine dead and the battery tender brought it back to full power on recondition mode.  probably worth a replacement.

February was unusually cold around here; we got the most snow in like 80 years or some shit. I'd had the battery from original delivery in the car, but never really had a problem because I run the car every other day even when it's not driven. I didn't get to the car for about a week because of the snow and that, combined with the cold, seemed to kill it. The car wouldn't even make that fun clicking noise when the battery is almost dead.

The sad fact is I've had an Optima sitting on the shelf for 5+ years. The battery holder is literally a threaded sleeve and a piece of V-shaped trim welded to the chassis. The Optimas are much smaller, so there needs to be some fabrication to get it to stay put. I'd blanked on the battery all the time it spent in the shop. Was it any good? Once the weather got better, I pushed the car into the driveway and swapped batteries. I figured I'd much rather do a hack job to keep the battery in place and take it somewhere, than have to go buy a same-size battery or get a free roadside assistance tow. Swapped the batteries and the thing was DEAD. 

A jumper pack later, the thing is running really rough. It eventually clears its throat and runs well. I drive it around for 10 minutes, come back park it, and it doesn't turn over. I've already rigged the battery, so I pushed it back in the garage and hooked up my battery tender. Two or three days of checking the status lights with no change and I'm convinced the battery is toast. I do get it to start, but no green lights to be found. Five days later and it's both red and green, meaning there's 80+% charge, but I'm leaving for a week of vacation. 

Come back, it's all green and supposedly fully charged. YES. It starts and runs, but does anyone wanna run a pool on how long it'll last and/or where it'll strand me? Note jumper pack will be in the trunk for a little while.

When my optima was getting shitty (despite living on a trickle) I did some reading and optimas are supposed to act like deep cycle. The CEO of the company claims he uses discarded 'dead' optima batteries that he revives in his daily driver. So....might be ok?

btw, ditch that awful lead acid jump pack and get a lithium ion jumper!

The yellow top is supposed to be crank power and cycling - we had them in the 944s and they sat for extended periods of time with no issues. I'm thinking the trickle back to life might have given it a reasonable recharge and it'll hold... at least for a few years. Or, I could get a custom pan welded to hold and then have to buy a replacement.

I bought the jumper on a whim, so I picked something based on cost. It holds a charge well and has never not started something, so I'm okay with it. I'll replace it with something better when needed. Ideally, EGO would make one that accepted our mower/chainsaw battery since it's always charged. They sell a generator now; maybe at some point. This thing is only $1200. A real bargain.
