Gamestop code gave me a free red sparrow! It actually gave me two, I wish I could give one to someone else haha...maybe I'll leave it in the vault for another character. G and I sessioned until about 3am on the "hard" levels and my guy is definitely not as tank as he used to be...but I will fix that Tongue

Yeah I don't know if they tuned up the difficulty but it was definitely challenging for the 2 of us to do campaign on hard. The AI was flanking us, sneaking up behind us, working in teams, using cover, the works. Definitely made it enjoyable to have a hard campaign experience that was hard because of the tactics of the enemies rather than them being bullet sponges.

Played some PvP too. First time I played pure slayer mode which was cool. Gotta tighten up the game a little bit but overall I didn't do too badly.

At Level 8 now, will be back on this evening for a bit but I have some work to do so I don't know how long I'll play.

Whew. I think I'm okay so far...

I'll be honest and say the game was a big overwhelming at first, but it wasn't hard to get my bearings. It's really just Halo v424 and the game will live/die on building fire teams you can actually coordinate with. If that happens, it'll be the BEST GAME EVER. If not, it's another in a stack of marginally different FPS.

First full day: made it to a few kills before lvl 14 (before the internet crashed), 273 defense, opened up Mars and got a new ship. Not bad! Haven't played PvP yet because I am really enjoying the storyline and you get great loot from completing the missions.

You can actually do pretty well just working with random people on the Strikes. I've never had a team that was so shitty that we couldn't finish. However, don't even think about doing missions that are above your level or on hard if you don't have a partner. It will beat your ass.

Only problem with not having a crew to play with is you won't be able to put together a team for the Raid. Of course, you could fix that problem if you got a PS4...

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 09-10-2014

I was playing mostly Crucible last night, but my right trigger broke and I was out there getting shot in the face like a dummy without returning fire. I'm sure that looked hilarious to the people who got some free kills.

A couple of notes, for the noobs:

*When you get an encrypted engram drop, if you save it until you are at a higher level, when you decrypt it it will be a more powerful item. So for instance if you get an encrypted engram when you're a level 3, and you save it until you're a level 5, you'll get a level 5 item.

*Look for the gold chests, they'll give you some weapons/armor earlier than you'd normally get them.

Gold Chest Locations

*You don't have to cash in completed bounties right away. At least wait to cash it in when you have a weapon that has an upgrade tree. That way the XP you win will upgrade your character and your weapon(s).

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 09-10-2014

Smart! Good tips of advice. I am pretty impatient and usually just trade an engram in. If you do the instanced storyline quests, you get tons of good gear anyway, I have been cycling out of weapons and armor pretty quickly

I actually had a fireteam of friends last night.... to my surprise and delight.

I did seriously consider PS4 at one point, but then I realized I never got the chance to play with MM people after I moved to a different time zone anyway.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 09-10-2014

So I got a Deconstructed Engram, which looks like potentially gives you some of the best equipment. You are saying I should hold onto this and trade it in when I cap out at level 20 to get the best stuff?

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 09-10-2014

I haven't encountered any of those yet but if I had to guess, that might be an item you need to construct a legendary or exotic weapon. Not sure though, maybe asked on bungie forums or r/destinythegame.

Also, supposedly the public events spawn on a schedule. So in Old Russia in Free Roam/Patrol, they spawn right around the top of the hour and the half hour. So 4:55-5:05 and 5:25-5:35 for example. I'm gonna try that next time I'm on to get that bounty done, so far I haven't seen any public events spawn. I'll have to look up what parts of Old Russia are on that schedule.

Nice! I got another one tonight but they seem to be pretty rare drops...maybe one blue engram for every 20 you get. I'm about to hit 20 so I am going to save them all up for then.

So in case you were wondering if it is worth it to complete the whole storyline, here is the answer:

The barrel glows every second or two which makes for a really cool effect when you are running through caves:

I also got a chest plate that had about the same stats as some of the armor you have to grind for.

Regarding the AI, on Mars there are some NPCs called Phalanx that carry impenetrable shields. I was ripping one of the yellow named NPCs who didn't have one with my sniper rifle and a Phalanx ran over and used his shield as cover for his "boss" so I couldn't finish him off. I was VERY impressed, that really makes this game enjoyable. Oh also, the Dark Garden made me realize how absolutely beautiful this game is. Hats off to Bungie for creating the best game I have ever seen.

Pro tip:

Do NOT try to run up and punch Phogoth in the dick. He will take offense.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 09-11-2014

Crucible Tips:

In at least Clash and Control, if you are next to a teammate when he picks up the heavy ammo, you'll get heavy ammo too. Supposedly this will work for multiple teammates so if you get your whole fireteam over to pick up heavy ammo, <Oprah>Rockets for everyooooneee! You get some rockets! You get some rockets! Rockeeetttttsss!!!</Oprah>

In Control, the object of the game is to score points, not to see who can hold the zones for the longest. Each zone you control multiplies the score you get when you kill someone. So if you've got two zones, focus on killing and defending, not necessarily seeking out the next zone.

Slide + Shotgun = Win

If you see a teammate's icon that has a yellow border, that means he has a charged up super. If he kills someone with it, there's a chance orbs of light will drop, which will charge your super. It pays to hang with people when they drop a super.

When a teammate's icon has an exclammation point, it means their shields are down.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Mike - 09-12-2014

anyone else hit 20 yet?

at least before it, the grind felt like it was heading somewhere. now? uhhh... i could spend a zillion hours just getting the materials (in essence, that's all everything is) for a single item. that's a lot of time just holding the fire button on these brainless hit-point bags they call bosses.

slightly disappointed. i knew this is what i was getting into, but the reality of it is crappier than i expected.

Yea hit 21.5ish last night. I'm already a complete and hopeless fanboi of this game but I personally don't mind that kind of grind. But this is coming from someone who once camped 13 hours straight to solo "green" placeholders over and over to get a rare named mob to spawn in Everquest  . During the beta not much was opened up beyond the Sepiks Prime event, and I did that event no lie probably 40-50 times to max out my gear. Getting rare / legendary armor bumps your effective level up with "Light" points so it still gives you something to work for. You can also level up your Vanguard exp which eventually leads to some cooler stuff. I hit Vanguard level 1 last night and all I got was a new emblem...but at level 2 and 3 you get some really nice stuff.

Regarding the bullet bag bosses, I am seeing a lot of criticism on this on some online articles but you kind of had to expect that is how it was going to go. This is the first iteration of this game and I am sure they are still trying to wrap their heads around what a MMO "raid" could look like. Plus, the fact that you can only group up in teams of 3 kind of limits the dynamic experience you can put into a raid (there are probably hundreds of examples of complex boss engagements in EQ and WoW in which you need the special abilities and cooperation of every single player type...mezzing mobs, protecting against AoE attacks, CH rotations, etc.). Maybe in the future they will add updates that will allow for more unique boss mob engagements, but for right now it is hard enough playing on some of the hardest Strike missions.

So Xur, the NPC who takes strange coins for exotic stuff, is in the tower next to the crucible quartermaster in case anyone was trying to find him. AND I WANT THE ARMS HE IS SELLING
