- KPWSerpiente - 06-21-2008 Slower than me dude...you needed a new sensor to tell you that? -T - JustinG - 02-12-2009 Soooo, driving the car everyday, for a 20min commute to work. The exhaust gets a lil annoying, and attracts more attention than its worth from the kids in the area as well is the POPO. So, to quiet it down alotta guys are going with a Vibrant/Magnaflow/Summit muffler, w/ 3in inlet/3inoutlet or Dual 2.5in Outlet. I did pricing for the Summit muffler w/ a Jbend and the flange I need and it came to $73 bucks. My Dilemma, trying to decide which muffler to go with, I want good flow but a quieter ride. Im usnure of the quality of the "Summit" brand products. Any input on quality and experience would be great. Opinions are welcome. AND do you guys think i can get the right configuration with a J bend??? Current Exhaust: Thermal R&D 3in catback, i love the sound but the fucking 5in tip is a lil much. Im going to be replacing the Axle Back portion pictured below. Pic is of actual GSX exhaust. ![]() Options: Summit Muffler: $33 bucks, Muffler, Chambered, 3 in. Inlet, 2.5 in. You could just use that for DDing and if you're gonna track/autox it, swap it out, looks like just 2 hangers and 3 bolts. - JustinG - 02-12-2009 I dont have the stock system, and people are asking as much for it as I can piece together this better flowing stuff for. - xvxax - 02-12-2009 Magnaflow, they have a rep for being quiet. I was pleasantly surprised at how high quality the construction is. Lifetime warranty. Do it, but I would stuff the longest muffler back there that you can. - WRXtranceformed - 02-12-2009 +3 for Magnaflow. I got a Magnaflow resonator for Christmas for my car, I was extremely impressed with how it sounded on my old WRX. I really don't think you will be disappointed. - Goodspeed - 02-12-2009 I've got the exact Magnaflow you pictured up there and its loud as balls, you've heard it. And thats with a cat. Plus, its raw metal and looks like ass; I'm still planning on flat-blacking it and finding some nice tips. It looks terrible coming out of the DSM rear too, sorry. Keep the Thermal and add a resonator to the midpipe or something. - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-12-2009 just throw in some resonators. You really wanting your car to sound like goodspeeds? He runs the magnaflow... - JustinG - 02-12-2009 magnaflow makes like 4 different 3in inlet dual outlet mufflers varying on the amount of noise you want to come out....which one are you running goodspeed? - Mike - 02-12-2009 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:just throw in some resonators. yep. i've got a cat, 18" resonator, and 2.5" single in/out magnaflow oval... sounds better than 99.999% of honda exhausts. - JustinG - 02-12-2009 i will probably add in a resonator. My biggest complaints are the cruising noise and the 5in tip that i feel is responsible for the $100 exhaust tickets i have gotten numerous times. Hence my thinking about just a new muffler. I feel like a chambered muffler would just kill me with back pressure but take care of the noise problem???? Oh and BTW im running a cat as well. - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-12-2009 if your running a cat a baffled chamber that is 3-inch aint gonna do shit to backpressure. A chambered 3-inch isnt going to be any sort of restrtiction at your power level - JustinG - 02-12-2009 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:at your power level WTF is that supposed to mean....ill kill you! And IF you are correct i may just go with the Chambered Summit muffler. If it doesn't work, im out 30 bucks worth of muffler, and can just weld on a different one - fiveoh2go - 02-12-2009 The Summit muffler looks just like a knock-off Flowmaster.....and it's steel so it is going to rust. Two strikes against it. I'd go with a muffler from Magnaflow. I know that for the Mustang guys they offer the Magnapack muffler which is just a straight through design (what your have pictured) and they also have a conventional "turbo" style muffler that's much more quiet. Either way the quality is there with Magnaflow. - xvxax - 02-12-2009 magnaflows are straight through, not chambered - fiveoh2go - 02-12-2009 xvxax Wrote:magnaflows are straight through, not chamberedNot all of them. Look up their XL Series 3 mufflers. - JustinG - 02-13-2009 Ive decided to go the cheap route, I am gonna order the summit 3" in/dual 2.5"out chambered muffler, 3" glasspack/resonator, a J bend and the flanges. Only gonna be like $100 shipped. If I don't like the sound of the summit muffler I am out 30 bucks and will fork out the money for the vibrant muffler and weld it on, cause they are both the same size. Don't see spending the extra $40 for the magnaflow cause ill be out more money if I don't like it. - xvxax - 02-13-2009 If it looks anything like the picture above, I can assure you you're not going to like the way it looks. - JustinG - 02-13-2009 well see, its gonna be painted flat black, so im hopin it looks somewhat similar to the above pic on the car. |
