Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 01-04-2017 For anyone debating a new TV soon - this seems like a great bet http://gizmodo.com/tcls-new-roku-tvs-are-some-of-the-cheapest-sets-with-hd-1790754198 Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - BLINGMW - 01-06-2017 Google Home is good for keeping itself company https://www.twitch.tv/seebotschat Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 01-09-2017 I started looking into some GoPro 3axis gimbals. So with a good chunk of gift cards to Amazon, an upcoming return to Daytona, and watching videos of Averie from this summer and almost getting motion sickness, I decided to pull the trigger on one. Ended up going with the Feiyu Wearable Gimble, came today and just paying with it around the house it is a cool little piece of tech. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011Y ... UTF8&psc=1 I would post some boring videos of me doing lame things with/without but there are plenty of those already on the internets. Like this one: I wanted this for the flexibility of mounting surfaces. I can use my gopro stick, a sticky mount, backpack mount, etc, etc and get footage that doesn't look like I am riding on a boat or driving over cobblestone. My only wish is it was waterproof or water resistant, but most of those setups are double the price, or some pipe dream on a crowd funding page. Some people say it survives ski slopes or snow, but I don't wanna chance messing this thing up in anything harder than a light mist. Cant wait to use it at the 24, now just need to try and figure out a way to live stream to social media during my garage walk through, or just quickly DL and post via my phone/hotspot. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 01-10-2017 Best place to have iPhone 6s screen replaced? Internet says Apple store is probably the easiest and not crazy priced. A little more than an hour and $129. Apple store in short pump so drop it off and get dinner and walk around mall to kill time. Seems like the easy button but just wanted to make sure since I have no experience getting a screen replaced because Apple problems. She had her phone sitting on the counter and half empty glass spice jar (like the little ones) fell out of the cabinet (2.5 ft) and hit the corner shattering the screen and she had a tempered glass screen protector on it too. No insurance though which actually barely makes sense to have now cause I think it costs me $140 to replace my phone even though I pay monthly for insurance. But anyways. Best solution? Just take it to the Apple store? Before you say just deal with it, she won't. It would be annoying cause it's cracked around the screen protector so it doesn't cover the little glass shards from falling out and she's wouldn't deal with a broken phone either way. She thinks it's going to burst into flames any second. You can negotiate with them sometimes too. Easy button is apple store though. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - RawrImAMonster - 01-10-2017 Apple store is the easiest, but I've heard they won't do it if the frame is bent at all. Otherwise, there are a lot of gadget repair places that will do it. Harrisonburg has like 3 or 4 at least. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 01-10-2017 I would hope the frame isn't bent from a 6oz spice jar but it did land on the top edge. Screen and frame and I haven't looked that closely. Otherwise she's super careful with her phone so it's not in rough shape at all. I'm still amazed that broke it. I wish I could convince her to just switch to Android but now she wants a Mac too. I told her I'd split a desktop (like maybe one of those big all in one screen things) for our place together if it's PC and tried to explain to her that there is really no need for a laptop once you graduate and you have a tablet (she has a fairly new iPad) but she doesn't believe me. I'm sure I'll be trying to enlist everyone's help on that in a few months. Also, I think it was in this thread but, Jake, did you ever replace your back glass on your s7. I desperately need to do mine Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Jake - 01-10-2017 Sully Wrote:I would hope the frame isn't bent from a 6oz spice jar but it did land on the top edge. I'm sure I'll be trying to enlist everyone's help on that in a few months. Honestly, my (ancient) laptop gets way more use than my iPad does. I need to buy a new *something* soon and I am firmly in the "new laptop" camp. Tablets don't really do it for me given my needs and preference for a real keyboard. And yeah I did replace the S7 back glass. On the Edge, it was super easy. Didn't even need a hair dryer (I don't own one, this hair just happens). Take a razor blade and carefully slip it in - was easiest for me where the crack in the glass was along the edge - then slowly cut your way around the entire edge of the back glass. Should come off easily. After that comes off, you just push the camera lens out and pop it into the new back. The new back is a peel-and-stick method of installation. Took less than 5 minutes. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 01-10-2017 Are you leaning PC? I feel like you were over Apple the last time it was discussed. Yea I feel one regular computer of sorts with a keyboard and word processor and stuff is needed but I don't think we need laptops anymore. Wouldn't a desktop be cheaper for better specs? And we could use our tablets for Facebook and stuff Were you able to get one with a Samsung logo? Just curious as I may be trading my phone in at some point before I pay it off. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - .RJ - 01-10-2017 I'm really happy with my 15" MBP that I bought in 2015. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 01-10-2017 .RJ Wrote:I'm really happy with my 15" MBP that I bought in 2015. Yeah, get that, I think Joey just got one as well. Don't get the new one though. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Jake - 01-10-2017 I'm 100% in the Windows camp right now. The new Apple stuff doesn't impress me at all and all of my specialized track/BMW software is Windows-based so there's not much point spending more on a Mac. And yes, I got a silver back with the Samsung logo (but no carrier logo) for like $15 on eBay. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - HAULN-SS - 01-10-2017 Dell XPS13 or XPS15 is my pick for a real laptop. They look tits. I would have bought this https://www.engadget.com/2016/04/06/dell-xps-15-review/ instead of a my 15" MBP a couple years ago, but they only made the 13" back then Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 01-10-2017 HAULN-SS Wrote:Dell XPS13 or XPS15 is my pick for a real laptop. New NVIDIA GPU, KabyLake, 4K screen. So much want. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - .RJ - 01-11-2017 My folks have had bad time after bad time with Dell laptops. Not sure whats going on there.... the new samsungs look really nice tho. I told them to buy one of those. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 01-11-2017 Alienware or GTFO Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 01-11-2017 .RJ Wrote:My folks have had bad time after bad time with Dell laptops. Not sure whats going on there.... the new samsungs look really nice tho. I told them to buy one of those. I have the Spin 7 from Samsung and my dad bought the Notebook 5, really happy with both. Also, the XPS line is much higher quality than the latitudes, which is what most people get. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - SlimKlim - 01-11-2017 Ken Wrote:.RJ Wrote:I'm really happy with my 15" MBP that I bought in 2015. Yeah, I'm really glad we went ahead and bought the previous gen. The new ones have been getting awful reviews, and the models with the touch bar thing are even more overpriced than I would've expected. I have an iPad Air, iPhone 6S and that Macbook right now and I love all of them, but they better not break because I don't want any of the new Apple stuff and I don't want anything that isn't Apple. I'm hoping they get their shit together by the time I need a new device, although I ought to be good for a couple years. They are the sketchy dell line. if you stick with the latitudes it should be a much better experience. new xps have been getting solid reviews also, we've had a few seed units here for testing and they've been solid so far. |
