This statement makes zero sense.

So you're saying that if Super Mario Bros were released today, it'd be considered a horrible game? Someone had better tell all the indie devs who are making tons of dollars on tablets and via XBL Arcade that they're doing it wrong.

Gameplay > graphics any day.
Tablet and mobile games are what developers create to target the money-spending non-gamer audience. That is widely known. You can make whatever awful sidescroll game you want if people will buy it / advertisers will give you money for it (ie Flappy Bird). That does not make each one of those millions of consumers a "gamer". I consider myself a gamer and personally do not buy apps like that. If it's free and I'm bored I have downloaded / played / deleted games the same day. I pay money for games that have good gameplay but also have incredible graphics and visual experiences.

Oh gosh, no I didn't. You read something completely wrong or I worded it that way.

My entire point was that if you're getting hung up on and not enjoying a game due to minuscule differences between different flavors of HD, you might be missing the point. I suppose we're all different, but not once have I been playing Titanfall and said to myself "These graphics fucking suck!" I'm constantly thinking "Hooolllllyyyy shit, I'm having fun!" Maybe I need a better TV or to sit closer to it?

you kinda did

Apoc Wrote:I can't speak for Mike, but I bought mine because I wanted/needed a new entertainment machine. Blu-ray, voice control of my entire entertainment center, better streaming options and newer games are the reasons I bought it.

This.

If you think graphics are all that matter, I can see why you're not a gamer.
perhaps thats not what you meant. but it reads as "i bought my xbone because i like to use kinect to voice control my bluray pr0n so my remote doesnt get sticky and then stream Say Yes to the Dress on netflix and if you dont think thats important too then youre not a gamer"

anyway, i feel like the point is sufficiently labored, and ultimately i think i agree with the point you are (trying to) make.
personally i just wasnt willing to shell out the $500 until the games are there, and im not going to fool myself into thinking that there isnt much difference between next gen and a midrange pc.
i like the kinect and voice control stuff, and i think its these types of gameplay experiences that consoles are going to have to innovate to survive. cuz raw graphics arent cutting it.

in fact i cant wait to play metal gear ground zeroes on my old ass ps3 Smile (but shit i should play peacewalker first)

oh, no, neither am i. i choose xbox because i prefer sitting on the couch, it is where all my "gamer" friend play (i'm going to include Chris on this... the dude used to work at Funcoland, for christ's sake! I guess we can think of him as more of a 720p gamer, though), and... that's why.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 03-18-2014

If you have one of the old consoles and haven't bought one of the new ones yet it is safe to say you will be fine for a while until better games comes out and / or they stop supporting new games for the old ones (which I think is soon).

My 360 was in my theater room basement; I never played it 'cause I didn't want to go downstairs and power everything up. I now play my One 3-4 days/week because it's just a "XBox go to Titanfall" command away. My wife also does Just Dance 1-2x/week because of the same reasons - she never touched the 360.

It's essentially a media PC with slightly improved graphics over the 360 (for now). I always wanted a media PC, but didn't want to deal with all the hoops needed to make it work in a way my wife would deal with it. Now I have one that's also Chromecast, controls every device in my cabinet and has sweet games like Titanfall. win/win/win/win. Add better graphics down the line and there's no reason not to have one, except maybe cost for non-gamers.

Integrated consoles are the future and MS is ahead of the curve... even if the system was released way before it or the market was ready.

Any kind of virtual reality gaming would be so insanely awesome for an in-home experience. That is what I think of when I think of the future of gaming

Microsoft stole your girlfriend and you're trying to convince yourself and everyone else you're better off with the next girl. We get it. I just hope your PSWiicessory makes you less bitter about the whole thing.

Yup. I'm sure this will be a commercial success since the general market loves to wear things on their face in order to interact with something. 3D TV's were such a huge success thanks to that.

You're the one telling us how good the XBone is at things that aren't playing games. :dunno:

Also, how does this even work at home? How do I not break everything in my house while using one of these? Do I need to build a cage?

I'm talking about how the machine I own is good at things in ADDITION to playing games. see:

Apoc Wrote:In other news, TF is the best game I've played in a long, long time.

You, on the other hand, drop in about once a page to reaffirm your saltiness at MS's treatement of you. You know, instead of talking about the merits of your own machine.

If that's the way you see it? :dunno: I kind of feel like the PS4 kind of speaks for itself, since there's literally no one in this thread going "Damn, I wish I'd bought an XBox" while there's 2 at last count going "This XBone experience has me really thinking about buying a PS4".

Sorry, I'm just over here getting my shit scared out of me by Outlast. Which was included in my PS+ membership. I guess I'd love to participate in this whole "You're not a real gamer unless you X" discussion, (wait no I wouldn't) and I could say how easy it is to play games on my PS4, as I just sit down on my loveseat, press the playstation button on my controller and everything just comes on like magic (OMG JUST LIKE AN XBOXXX) but since I expect a console to do that (and my 360 did the same exact thing) I don't think its worth crowing about?

In other news, this look fuckin' awesome

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - G.Irish - 03-20-2014

Anyone buying Infamous: Second Son?

Looks like a decent game to kill time with until Watch Dogs in May. Depending on when I get some Aclr8 and freelance work done, I'll treat myself to a PS4 sometime before Watch Dogs drops hopefully.

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Evan - 03-20-2014

And try as I might to get into PC sim racing, I just dont like any of the games (and the wheel is an ordeal to set up)

What bugs you most about GT6? The fact that they still haven't fixed the sound? No damage model? Longish load times?

I don't really enjoy driving the regular cars in GT6 too much but I'm having fun with the Red Bull cars and karts. Wish I had more time to play though =/

Re: Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post - Evan - 03-20-2014

The fact that at the core it is the exact same game that came out over 15 years ago.
The racing is terrible in career mode, you have 2 or 3 laps to go from last to first and every car is strung out with 5 car lengths in between each other. What fucking race series have you ever seen start that way. What real race is 2 laps? So to win you have to just have a much faster car then the others, and youre playing catchup the whole race. That shit is boring, and its not real racing. If I want to have 'good' racing then i have to pick a car that is just a little faster than the other cars. What is maddening about that is that its SO EASY to fix, but Polyphony Digital has had their heads up their asses for 15 years, and some idiot in charge stubbornly sticks to thats how GT racing should be.
The AI is still atrocious and completely obvlivious to your presence.
So fine, Ill just race online, its probably a lot better.
whole lotta NOPE. Multiplayer has all the sophistication of a 1998 quake game. Big o list of races. Clubs, leagues, etc etc were all promised but after 4 months its still a lotta suck.

Sounds are awful, but I can deal with that if the gameplay was there. I dont care much about damage.

Karts almost make up for it, real grid starts, all the karts are equal, and the karts handle fantastic. AI is even pretty decent. Its like its a totally separate game with a different game designer behind it.

And ghetto-ass willow springs but no sonoma, watkins glen, or mid ohio? what the fuck?
Didnt GT4 have sonoma? I feel like the series is going backwards.

whenever they fix the multiplayer I can see having some fun doing a kart league.
Ill start doing more of the time-trial type events too, those arent bad.
