This ^^ I'm actually super glad they didn't bring heavy equipment. Our yard is still settling in some places and since the bermuda is still dormant its "crunchy" and would probably get destroyed.

The solar lights work MUCH better in the backyard! We'll see how well they charge under the trees but that part of the property gets sunlight all day so I don't think i'll have the same problem. Can't wait to see this in a year or two!

Its gonna be hilarious when they grow up and your yard is the only one with trees lol

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Sully - 03-09-2017

Wouldn't need heavy equipment. But a two person auger would have sped up the job by quite a bit.

My rich neighbor already has about 30 Green Giants that look sort of similar but are way smaller and have hardly grown at all since they were planted last year. He's planning on calling the same place that did my leland cyprus and getting a bunch installed as well. The neighbor to the next to me has some loblolly pines in the bottom of his lot so I won't be the only tree guy in my cul de sac

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - WRXtranceformed - 03-29-2017

Thank you Justin for the lookout (and for letting me borrow your membership!) for these things:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://m.costco.com/SafeRacks-Overhead-Garage-Storage-Combo-Kit%2c-Two-4-ft.-x-8-ft.-Racks%2c-18-piece-Deluxe-Hook-Accessory-Pack-.product.100133736.html">https://m.costco.com/SafeRacks-Overhead ... 33736.html</a><!-- m -->

Definitely a great price for the whole package, now I get to figure out where exactly in my garage I want to mount them and mentally prepare myself for the install Tongue

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Apoc - 03-29-2017

How do you have like 3000 sqft and still need to mount racks in your garage?

It is just easier than dragging that crap up to the attic through a 2ftx3ft pull down. All my stuff is seasonal (Decorations, beach stuff, baby stuff we don't want to get rid of yet, coolers, golf clubs, etc)

I guess I've just always had a house that had actual storage that isn't an attic.

This exactly. I could keep everything stacked up in boxes in the garage which would not jive with my need for order and cleanliness, I could try to schlep them up the stupid attic access (that has surprisingly little storage beyond a standing area to service the HVAC stuff) or just dump everything into closets like we have now but it's all air space that's waiting to be used as dedicated storage. Plus, it's easy to mount hooks to so that I can hang up stuff like my weedeater, tools, etc.

With that said, I did a 3rd round of measurements and I ended up cancelling my order  I think the 4x8s are going to be way too big for the space i need to mount them in so I'm going to make some more measurements and map out where the ceiling joists are this weekend and maybe downsize to the 3x6s

Some of the models that were built here have unfinished storage rooms or people didn't have them converted to bedrooms. Personally I'm glad this one was spec'd with a bedroom and bathroom over the garage vs. unfinished storage for resale purposes...it's a small price to pay to throw a few hundred dollars of storage racks up in the garage space

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Apoc - 03-29-2017

Ah, yes, resale... when people do things to their house that aren't ideal in the interest of other people eventually owning it. After three houses, I've finally arrived at the mind space that I'm going to have my house how I want it and to hell with the resale.

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - JPolen01 - 03-29-2017

We have an unfinished room in the basement that would bring more money as a bedroom when we sell it. But then I have precisely zero storage space so that's not gonna happen.

Yeah when we build our "forever" home I would have things exactly the way I want it, including some kind of basement storage space. Right now though, I definitely want the extra bedrooms so it worked out alright for us! This was a spec home so we didn't have much control over the options that were chosen...we just happened to like the vast majority of them

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - ScottyB - 03-29-2017

IMO resale's one of those things that's a lot easier to shrug off if you know you're staying for a loooong time and you've got the bucks to get into a place that's worth putting time and effort into anyway. kind of the same with cars too.

i'm looking forward to not caring some day, but it won't be for my first house that someone else might own in 3 years.

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - .RJ - 03-30-2017

Just make sure you patch the glory holes

I've never owned a house longer than five years and I doubt we'll be in this house much longer than that. Still don't care. Living in a super hot market doesn't hurt, I guess.

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Steve85 - 03-30-2017

I need to get some of those racks. The new garage is smaller, unfinished basement area is smaller, and the new basement is not a level walkout which impacts garage space.

The cypress look good Lee! We have a row of 6 in the back (could use 1 or 2 more) and I think the builder pulled the support stakes too early since they are all leaning from the strong winds we get across the back. I'm glad they have survived the disease running around here though, so many people have had theirs completely die in our old neighborhood.

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - WRXtranceformed - 03-30-2017

Thanks dude! We love them and they are already growing so fast. Yeah I had to go stake them up mostly myself and was told to leave the stakes for 6mos to 1 year. One of the trees is actually browning at the top and sides so we may have gotten one that didn't survive the weird frost a few weeks back. My wife is calling today to see if we can get it replaced
