I literally bought a set of tires....just because... I don't have a car they currently fit on

That's what my old DSM looked like.

If I go 265 all around am I going to need camber plates to make it fit with a roughly 1" drop? I think with the stock hardware you can get around -1.6 degrees of camber if you remove the pin.

I think I'm leaning toward the staggered route at this point. It's the better option for a street setup. If I get into track/autocross at some point I can always get another couple wheels to make it squared if I'm serious enough.

Re: Project: 2003 BMW M3 - RawrImAMonster - 01-27-2017

The Continental DW is on sale on Tirerack for ~$200 cheaper than the Michelin PSS would cost me total (including mount and balancing). From what I've heard they're very similar, but ultimately the PSS is better.

Any of you have experience with this tire?

Re: Project: 2003 BMW M3 - SlimKlim - 01-27-2017

I've got the DW on mine and I really like it for a road tire. Tread wear isn't crazy, nice and predictable when they start to lose grip. I'd buy 'em again.

I have a fresh-ish set on the M5. I don't ask too much of them, but I'm pleased with them as a street tire. Decently quiet, too.

I can't decide if you owe me $600 or I owe you a thanks for saving me $400. :dunno:

Brand new DW is out/coming out shortly. Fantastic daily driver tire with little noise and amazing rain capability (better rain tire than the Michelin). New one is supposed to be better but of course Michelin just came out with a new pss replacement/coming out soon.

If you are comparing to the Michelin, get he Conti.

I like the DWS on my A4

Re: Project: 2003 BMW M3 - Jake - 01-28-2017

I've also liked the Conti DW and DWS, had DWS on my 128i and dad's Miata and DW on mom's Crossfire. Great tires and very good in the rain.

Re: Project: 2003 BMW M3 - RawrImAMonster - 01-31-2017

They were already out of stock by the time I went to order them. I might just wait and get the new DW replacement. It's supposed to come out in February at some point.

I'd look into the new version of the Michellin PSS, but they are only releasing those in 19's and up for now.

Might be worth giving them a call if you haven't. My RS3's went out-of-stock too, but when I called them, they located some in a different warehouse. Just had to wait a few extra days for them to ship.

Re: Project: 2003 BMW M3 - RawrImAMonster - 02-03-2017

Eibach Pro Street S coilovers are on the way  I'm excited to see how it handles on fresh suspension. The stock shocks on it now are definitely very old.

I'm probably going to go ahead and put these on at the highest setting and just wait to get an alignment until I get the wheels and tires. With the amount I drive it, I doubt the tires will take much damage even if the alignment is pretty far off.

Apex is getting ready to start a group buy on the 18" ARC-8's so I'm just going to hop on that to save a few hundred bucks and hopefully I'll have them in time for the car show.

Re: Project: 2003 BMW M3 - RawrImAMonster - 02-15-2017

Coilovers showed up yesterday so I'll probably go ahead and put those on this weekend.

Apex just opened up it's 18" ARC-8 group buy so I registered for that as well. I've decided to go staggered for now. The ships by date is 03/31 so it's iffy as to whether or not I'll have them by the MM car show weekend, but oh well. I'm cheap and this will save me probably $200+ over purchasing them normally.

Now I just need to decide on what tires I want. Michellin PSS are $895 in the configurations I want and the brand new Continental ExtremeContact Sport is $813. Initial impressions from TireRack testers are saying the Continental is now better in the dry and wet than the PSS so I might take a chance and get the Conti's.

Edit: Just noticed this on the description for the new Contis. This isn't normal for summer tires is it? At least I haven't seen it on any other street tires.

Note:: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Max Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

Edit 2: Apparently this is normal for summer tires. I knew you weren't supposed to drive them in cold temps because they lose traction much easier, but I hadn't heard of this before.

Re: Project: 2003 BMW M3 - rherold9 - 02-15-2017

Normal Description. Quality performance summer tires all say that now-a-days. I'd honestly go with the tried and true PSS.

Re: Project: 2003 BMW M3 - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-15-2017

Normal. I would go with the Conti if it's the updated version or wait for the new PS4 Michelin that'll be out shortly. Definitely wouldn't do PSS when both are getting updates unless you get a close out deal.

Add me in the "+1 for Conti" camp.
