Mine is getting relocated to the basement to my new man cave. It should be close enough to the router that I can hardwire it. I am hoping that helps a lot of the lag issues I am dealing with as well.

Side note I didn't realize that Destiny is a MMORPG? Lol great

I can't imagine gaming on wireless is any good. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I don't think the technology is there yet.

If you have a dual band AP I would try having it join the 5GHz network, might be interference from the other electronics I'm sure you have nearby as well.

From my experience so far it's doo doo. Basically unplayable with whatever connection I have. I have a pretty legit router and modem so I am assuming it's time Warner

More of a MMOFPS. You play in the gamespace and in certain sections other people seamlessly join in, no lobbies or anything. By default you don't even hear those people talk, although you can gesture to them.

Supposedly it won't have insane time investment requirements like the typical MMO, although I imagine they'll set the bar pretty high for rare stuff and the crafting and what not.

My xbox has been connected wirelessly for a long time and it works fine. If you have any close neighbors, you may want to check if they are on the same channel as you. You could be getting interference from them.

I mean I live in a townhouse so I have neighbors all around me

Awesome, that is all I am really worried about is the need for grouping or massive time sink quests that require multiple people to accomplish. I have been there and done that and don't have the time or desire to do it again

All the stuff I've read so far it definitely appears more "Borderlands" less "World o Timesink".

Drop in, drop out, nbd.

Depending on how tech savvy you are, grab one of the various Wifi analyzer apps out there for your laptop or android phone (apple wont let these type of apps pass, assholes). If one of the closer networks to you is using the same channel you should switch to one that doesn't overlap at all. The only three you are supposed to be using really are 1, 6, and 11 since they don't overlap.

This. I use Wifi Analyzer on my phone. I was having wireless problems until I used it and realized me and everyone around me was on 1, 6 or 11. I switched to 8 (I think) to get in the gap and got much better throughput.

In the example below, I would probably choose 9.

or, again, switch to 5GHz if possible. avoid the whole situation altogether.

i ended up finding my 2nd airport extreme in storage yesterday so i put that in the "entertainment center" extending the original wireless and hardwired the xb1. much better experience last night. not using 5G for now.

Re: XBOX 360 - Gamertags in 1st post - WRXtranceformed - 12-05-2013

How would one go about switching channels? Would that be somewhere within the router dashboard depending on the brand?

Re: XBOX 360 - Gamertags in 1st post - Mike - 12-05-2013

yes.

i tried 5G, but found it had an even worse signal. odd.

Just google your model and how to switch channels. It should be in the same place where you set your network name.

me too. I was playing iRacing via wireless, and that was with a mac mini acting as the wireless router (IE, not dedicated, not nearly as many options as a real router), while at the same time often streaming NetFlix itself, and/or another laptop or phone using the wireless network. I found that pinging a server from the hardwired mac or the wireless gaming PC gave me almost the same times. And not once (that I know of) was I ever kicked or lagged due to the wireless once I got it adjusted, it was either my internet connection or more often, the server itself I was connecting to (and a handful of people would get kicked).
Now that being said, the distance the wireless had to travel was not far, I played around with channels a bit too, and relocated the receiver a few times before I reliably got 75% strength. Below 50% caused problems.

Mike Wrote:yes.

hmm, problem with 5G is that although it is less susceptible to RF interference, it has less of a radius and does not penetrate walls as easily. Normally if you have decent line of site it works much better.

EDIT: *sight

Mike Wrote:yes.

The 5ghz signal doesnt carry as far as 2.4 (or whatever it is), so if you are not in the same room as the router that is probably the case for the worse signal.

I have a pretty good router, and I can have full signal on 2.4 upstairs and only 1 bar for my 5g connection.

EDIT: yea what Ken said.
