Re: What is your car buying future? - D_Eclipse9916 - 07-19-2016 Let me explain. My wife and her mother have an unhealthy obsession with boxy vehicles. Her mom had old jeeps, a fox body mustang convertible, and was upset when they switched jeeps to "curvey". My wife and her loved the old defenders, but they are too rough and simply too unreliable to tackle. After test driving cayennes, X5s,, Q7s, bmw wagons and other "possibles" we were somewhat disappointed. The X5’s reliability is heinous, she doesn’t like the wagons…especially for the price. And the Cayenne GTS was an utter disappointment. Dark, cramped, and “meh” performance. Her dream car was always a Land Rover but I always dismissed it as too unreliable. After a lot of research over the past 6 months, I found that the 5.0L V8 paired with the ZFs had worked out a lot of issues. We went to a dealership to go check out the Range Rover Sport. When we got there my wife drooled over the LR4. We test drove it and wow. The open airey feeling, the unbelievable turning radius (better than any of my m3s or sports cars!), the great brake feel (wtf?), and 3 rows (expanding family in the next 2 years) won us over almost immediately. After that; we either were not going to change vehicles or do the Land Rover. Lo and behold here we are 2 months later and we found a white exterior/black interior, ivory special edition in good shape. The only modifications will be a set of wheels (for summer, stock for winter), some weathertech floor mats and the trailer receiver (for bike/ski carrier, or extra cargo room). It is rated at 7700lbs. I still have my truck, but we wanted a backup in case we decided to get out of wheel to wheel racing in the future. Myy wife is super excited to have her dream car. We shall see what it entails!
Re: What is your car buying future? - Senor_Taylor - 07-19-2016 I honestly don't have anything snarky to say. I doubt she worries much about reliability when she has you to worry about it. We all know you get off on that kind of thing, so it sounds like a win-win to me! Looks great and I hope it treats you well! Re: What is your car buying future? - D_Eclipse9916 - 07-20-2016 So correction on the "ivory" edition. Did some research and we managed to snag a 1 of 300 Metropolis edition by accident! Sometimes ya get lucky! Metropolis Edition: Special 20" wheels Blacked out Fornt Grill Blacked out Side Grills Blacked out Mirros and Door Handles Extended Roof Rack Piano White Interior Trim Pieces White stitching against the black leather LED Headlight Sorround Re: What is your car buying future? - Jake - 07-20-2016 I dig it, particularly because you're already talking about joining us on a trail run with it. Looking forward to seeing it in person! Re: What is your car buying future? - JPolen01 - 07-20-2016 I approve of this purchase Re: What is your car buying future? - SlimKlim - 07-20-2016 Take any interior photos? I wanna see what "piano white" looks like in there. Re: What is your car buying future? - JustinG - 07-20-2016 looks good, for some reason the picture makes the taillights look ginormous! It doesn't matter if it's a maintenance nightmare for you, as long as she's happy and safe in it, and doesn't leave her stranded, it's a win. -Scott (who is shopping Volvo XC60's because that is what my very support wife wants) Re: What is your car buying future? - V1GiLaNtE - 07-20-2016 Jake Wrote:I dig it, particularly because you're already talking about joining us on a trail run with it. Tacoma, 4Runner, XJ, F150, LR4. Re: What is your car buying future? - ScottyB - 07-20-2016 the cool factor of those things is off the charts. nice catch DJ  Re: What is your car buying future? - Jake - 07-20-2016 I do have to admit that I met a friend for dinner last night and told him of DJ and Jess's new purchase after seeing the Instagram post, and when he asked which model of Land Rover, my response was a drawn-out "uhhhhh." I am glad to know that my guess of LR4 was not wrong. I have no idea which one is which size or which cost other than something with the words Range Rover in the name is probably the biggest. Grabbed off the internet real quick: Piano white with white stitching ![]() ![]() And regular LR4 ![]() Also does anyone know if Dan is still detailing these days? Want to get this thing sealed ASAP. Re: What is your car buying future? - SlimKlim - 07-20-2016 Nice, the white looks good, more subtle than I was imagining. That center stack reminds me vaguely of a volvo. Re: What is your car buying future? - WRXtranceformed - 07-20-2016 Love that color and definitely a nice score! My friends have an LR4 and they say it has been really solid for them. The 5.0 and ZF are both the same combo that was in the XFs and they have definitely sorted a lot out from a powertrain perspective. Very curious to see how this thang does for you! Re: What is your car buying future? - *insertusernamehere* - 07-20-2016 I didn't realize these had an actual model too. It was always just "a land rover" haha. The interior looks awesome. Re: What is your car buying future? - D_Eclipse9916 - 07-20-2016 Appreciate it guys, it is crazy how all the people who know nothing about cars are texting my wife "OMG LAND ROVERS ARE SO UNRELIABLE YOU ARE SCREWED". Thanks, I didn't know anything about cars or what I got myself into! Tried to find the thread on detailing. I need to get to work on my truck and want to get this thing all nice and shiny for the wifey. |
