Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - JustinG - 04-16-2013 The wife and I have Auto/Home through Alfa Insurance, just as another place for you to check. Make sure you claim all the discounts you can. You can look up "codes" for stuff. I always add the alarms/airbags/ignition kills(most cars have these stock nowadays but they don't add them when doing your insurance). Roughly the same as Geico.. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - JustinG - 04-16-2013 Defensive Driver discount....wonder if AutoX counts? Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - SlimKlim - 04-16-2013 Happy so far but I've only made a windshield claim. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - fiveoh2go - 04-16-2013 Do any of you guys with collector/older cars (20+ years old) have insurance through Hagerty, Grundy, or something similar? Whats your take on this kind of insurance? I'm looking at purchasing an older car that KBB lists its value as being significantly less than what these cars a currently selling for. In the event of a complete loss I'd like to know that I'd be able to receive a check for the cars actual value and not just a portion of it. I've gotten a few quotes and most of these collector car insurance companies are actually on par or cheaper than State Farm who I currently use to insure my DD. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 04-16-2013 I checked a bunch of collector car shops when I got the 911 and none of them were competitive with Geico, even when I based it off replacement value. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Steve85 - 04-16-2013 Hagerty was much cheaper than Allstate with agreed value on a barely driven car. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 04-16-2013 I had Hagerty when I had the 66 Stang, it was dirt cheap for an agreed upon value. I am not kidding, maybe $300 for the year? Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 04-16-2013 Shit. I just checked Hagerty and it's $256/year (vs. ~$400 with Geico) for no deductible. Not sure how I missed them when I was looking. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Evan - 04-16-2013 Yeah Ive been meaning to switch my exige over to hagerty. a little cheaper than allstate with no deductible. would have made accidentally ripping my side mirror off less painful
Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - fiveoh2go - 04-16-2013 Have you guys actually had to use your collector car insurance policies (i.e. - a fender bender or worse)? Just wondering how many extra hoops these types of polices require you to jump through in order to collect on them when compared to a "standard" policy with a company like State Farm, Allstate, etc. Also wondering how helpful these companies actually are when something goes wrong and they need to pay out on a claim. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 04-17-2013 fiveoh2go Wrote:Have you guys actually had to use your collector car insurance policies (i.e. - a fender bender or worse)? +1 Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 04-22-2013 Hagerty will not insure the 911 because we will have two licensed drivers in the household and only one "regular use" vehicle. I understand why they do it, but it seems myopic to punish "one car" families. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Steve85 - 04-22-2013 Never made a claim, but do not let anyone in the house get a ticket driving anything. After having them for a year, they sent me a letter with my ticket (while driving the Integra) and my daughters ticket and dropped me. No raising the rates, just dropped. They were notified of the accident when the MB SUV backed on to my hood. That was covered completely by the other party and Hagerty did call a couple times to make sure everything was being covered and to let them know if the other company refuses anything and they'd cover it. The accident was not mentioned in the rejection letter. My conversations with them lead me to believe they will make sure it gets fixed, but my experience tells me you may not be with them much longer if it was in the least bit your fault. They are diligent about their risk profile and that's reflected in the rates. No raising the rates, just dropped.Kinda sounds like they may be a "one strike and you're out" insurance company. Hmm. I did compare Hagerty to Grundy (same coverages, same agreed value, and $0 deductible) and Grundys premiums were half of what Hagerty wanted. Is Hagerty more expensive because they're the household name when it comes to this type of car insurance or do you get what you pay for (with the service being less than stellar) by going with the much cheaper Grundy? Right now I have $100/300k bodily injury, $100k property damage, liability only on the E36 (sweet baby jeezus please don't let me crash it now) and $500 deductibles on the VW. I also got the roadside service, because its a VW. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 04-24-2013 July 15th I get to merge insurance policies with Rachael In NC it literally causes your premium to plummet. So looking forward to that!
