Having an argument with some of the IS import fanbois right now who think the GTR is superior in straightline performance to the Z06 stock for stock and dollar for dollar after halltech got a tuned GTR to run an 11.1.

Specs for the GTR were just released, should be interesting to see how this stacks up to the ZR1 on a road course.

Here are the numbers: 2 seats only, 520 hp @ 6500 rpm, 440 lb.-ft. of torque all the way from 3200ÔÇô5200 rpm, 3615 lbs., 'Ring laps quicker than 7:30, $130,000 MSRP, early 2009.

So the car will lose its back seat and enough other stuff to shed 200 pounds, will get an extra 40 advertised horses, cost almost twice as much as the current model and lap the Nordschleife faster than a Porsche 997 GT2. We had that number as low as 7:25 recently, which is just insane. We're guessing there will be enough people that will wait for this model to hit U.S. shores when it debuts in early 2009, but even more who will think they can duplicate the recipe for far fewer dollars and a regular old GT-R. Thanks for the tip, Rob!

One just drove by my window at work. It's really not that impressive in person, I have to admit. When I told a few coworkers how much it cost, they all agreed that there was a better use of money... although they're not car enthusiasts.

Still 3600+ lbs, bleh. Talk about lead sled.

- HAULN-SS - 07-28-2008

wow...130 grand, and worse than a vette. No thanks.

so in Nissan speak what that actually means is it will have 560+ horses

i've heard numbers for the standard R35 are all over the place, especially considering the powerplants are hand assembled.

Weighing in now after much press reviewing and general fanfare, I must admit I'm a huge fan of this car. The above V-Spec in seal gray/black gets me very hot.

I think many are still struggling to cope with the idea of what this car can do vs. the price of admission. As an example, take a look at what time it did at the TG test track. I won't spoil it for you, but just look at what it beat....

http://jalopnik.com/398898/nissan-gt+r-laps-top-gear-track-with-a-time-of

Take a look at the Sept. '08 R&T Ultimate Track test...GTR comes in 2nd at Willow Springs to the SRT10 ACR Viper...a 3800lb GT car 1 second behind a stripped-out track brawler.

Hugely impressive and a marvellous acheivement. Plus, in black, this thing is the freaking Batmobile

Fixed. Sorry, the styling sucks. The numbers? Sure, they're great.

In that case, it took you longer to figure out your opinion than it took us to figure out your opinion Wink

Well, it fits in with all the other brutishly ugly Skylines. FWIW this one looks better than the R32 and R34. Still not what I would call 'hot' or sexy.

Screw that, I'd rock the hell out of the Batman Forever car and the new Tumbler. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if in the next Batman installment, Bale jumps out of a blacked out GTR in full ass-kicking gear to punch Riddler in the dick to save the day.

Bottom line, its not a beautiful car at all, but on the other end of the spectrum from beauty lies hard-edged functionality and thats what I see this car as. If you research the design, you'll find that every crease and angle serves an aerodynamic purpose; it kind of reminds me of the F50, where the shape and body just sort of "happened" after the engineers finished tweaking the exterior.

And i thought i knew you Gerald! the R34 is sexy... and looks WAY better then this overpriced POS.

The only way Batman should jump out of a GTR is if Wayne Enterprises tanked due to the mortgage meltdown and he was forced to sell all of his good-looking toys and had to settle for a Nissan. By day Bruce Wayne would be forced to drive an Altima Coupe.

I thought that too until I saw one in person. When it's modified it looks ago but the stockers I've seen just didn't look right for some reason. It looks too chunky :? When I saw this GTR at the show I thought it looked...better. Not great, just better.

Either way you don't buy a Skyline for the looks.

Would you like a Kleenex?

R32 is best Skyline to date, IMO.

- Kaan - 07-28-2008

to me it just takes rims with a fat lip and some coil overs to adjust the ride height Wink
