- Mike - 08-10-2006 Apoc Wrote:short of someone pulling out right in front of you. bingo! this is basically what happened. had i continued in my lane, i would have nailed the person at fault. instead i swerved to another lane, but couldn't outbrake an MR2 spyder while swerving. Apoc Wrote:Your situation sucks and I'm sorry you got so hosed but I don't believe that you are absolutely clear of responsibility for how it ended up. Sure, maybe Rossi would have managed some amazing feat. I honestly feel that if I had done something wrong, I would have been deemed "at fault" by someone who was directly behind me... No? I think it's too common to come across many cops that are sympathetic to bikers. Apoc Wrote:We've started to see a pattern emerge in your luck Pattern and luck? If the pattern is bad luck, yes. I'll take blame for the first drop, but this one? Uncontrollable bad luck is all it was (witnesses agreed, mind you). Had you been out there or anyone else on here for that matter, you'd be in the same boat as me. - Mike - 08-10-2006 Sijray21 Wrote:i'm sure he'll leave a little extra room next time that's the funny thing... i was following ym boss and made a concious effort to not get too close so i had just done a little distance count, which came to be 4. i don't know what happened as it occured all very quickly... maybe I looked away for a split second, but by the time i got on the brake, an accident with someone was unavoidable. - .RJ - 08-10-2006 Apoc Wrote:I really fail to see where I bashed him. All I said was maybe he wasn't ready to have his M (read: solo riding). I think that comment was out of line...... I've been on 2 group rides with mike and I really didnt see anything that practice and getting comfortable on the bike doesnt solve. Its fun to point fingers from the personal responsibility bandwagon, but sometimes just shit happens. - Apoc - 08-10-2006 Mike Wrote:chris, you're a god at everything. i can only hope to live a life as awesome as yours. Yes. Yes I am. Don't be such a fucking dolt Mike. I've never professed perfection and I'm far from it... especially if you take into account my run-ins with curbs. I've gotten lucky on the bike so far and I know my time will be up at some point. If you can't take a honest look at any situation, albeit via an off the cuff comment, then.... well... I don't what to say. If you fault me for the the comment itself then you're the biggest hypocrit I know 'cause you're the king, or maybe the queen after me, of them. - Mike - 08-10-2006 Apoc Wrote:I'm curous though... Mike, how much emergency braking (in parking lots, etc.) have you practiced with your bike? i really am tired of having to justify everything in my life to you... you are a god, i am not... - Mike - 08-10-2006 Apoc Wrote:I've gotten lucky on the bike so far and I know my time will be up at some point. ok... so you agree that at some time it's just gonna be a roll of the dice. i just so happened to roll worse than you yesterday. i don't see what is so difficult to understand about that. Apoc Wrote:If you can't take a honest look at any situation that's the problem, your look isn't an honest look, you're just judging me and my actions in order to build up some uknown within yourself (you do it on honda-tech as well). you weren't there, you have no idea what happened. the people that were there (including myself) realized the accident was unavoidable. - Apoc - 08-10-2006 Mike Wrote:Apoc Wrote:I'm curous though... Mike, how much emergency braking (in parking lots, etc.) have you practiced with your bike? That's it Mike... get pissy and throw a tantrum. It's an honest question, one that you seem unwilling answer and something that you should have done. Hindsight is blah blah blah... but what's the point of having life's bruises if you're not going to learn from them? Deflect the focus you want, if you're going to avoid situations in the future (even if this one wans't) are others supposed to help you learn? - Mike - 08-10-2006 i don't udnerstand what you're trying to get out of me? do you want an admission of guilt? - Apoc - 08-10-2006 Mike Wrote:that's the problem, your look isn't an honest look, you're just judging me and my actions in order to build up some uknown within yourself (you do it on honda-tech as well). you weren't there, you have no idea what happened. the people that were there (including myself) realized the accident was unavoidable. I thought I had a clear understanding what happened when we talked about it last night at your house. You had the opportunity to correct me at that point but I'm fairly certain you said, "I guess I was too close." Obviously you're telling me now that's not the case. If you truly was unavoidable, I'm sorry, but it didn't appear that way based on our conversation. Either way, I don't think a discussion about what should/can be done if you continue to ride is unwarranted. Can we hug and make up now? P.S. - Who wants pics? - G.Irish - 08-10-2006 Yeah seriously Chris you weren't being constructive or respectful in the tone of your posts. Sure, we should all analyze accidents so that we can all learn from each other's mistakes. But you are a bit over the line in starting out by posting 'Mike shouldn't have his M...' I mean damn, the guy hadn't even posted about his own accident. That's just flamebait. - .RJ - 08-10-2006 Apoc Wrote:Either way, I don't think a discussion about what should/can be done if you continue to ride is unwarrant. Why bother beating a dead horse? Thats something that Mike is going to have to answer to himself, not to anyone else, especially not this crowd. - Apoc - 08-10-2006 .RJ Wrote:Apoc Wrote:Either way, I don't think a discussion about what should/can be done if you continue to ride is unwarrant. That's exactly it Ryan, I don't think the horse is even on life support. Mike has gone down twice under hard braking. Once his fault and once not... Why are we, as riders, not uniquely qualified to discuss practicing and honing emergency braking techniques? - .RJ - 08-10-2006 Apoc Wrote:Why are we, as riders, not uniquely qualified to discuss practicing and honing emergency braking techniques? There's nothing wrong with that, and if thats the intent of your inquisition then start a new thread on it and move on with that idea.... there's no need to drag mike's new streetfighter project across the coals to talk about emergency braking situations. - Mike - 08-10-2006 it does look surprisngly good without front fairings... they were dated looking too... how hard is it to throw on a gauge cluster from something else? i assume a new headlight is cake... how would i go about mounting it all? - Kaan - 08-10-2006 mikey... its a street fighter... half the look comes from how you figure out how to mount things... you cant just ask... you have to figure that shit out!
- .RJ - 08-10-2006 If you hid all that ugly wiring, mounted up some dual round headlights and bar-end mirrors it would look pretty sweet! - Dragon - 08-10-2006 I agree that the "Maybe Mike shouldn't have his M" comment was out of line, but nothing else that Chris has said is entirely untrue. Maybe his tone could have been better, or his approach a bit nicer, but since when was anyone on this board accused of having a soft touch. Mike hasn't told me the details about his accident yesterday, and honestly I hadn't heard about him going down before, so I won't even think of passing any judgements or coming to any conclusions about his skill level. As we all know accidents happen, and eventually we'll all get caught in an unfortunate circumstance. Nearly all of these will be unavoidable, but the simple fact is that we all get comfy and lazy in our day to day routine, we don't scan as far ahead as we possibly should, we don't treat everything out there on the road as a potential hazard, and we all speed. Eventually our number will be up and bad luck is gonna bite us in the ass. For some of us we're gonna get bitten multiple times. Does this mean that we should stop doing what we do, nope, it just means that next time we're out there maybe we should drive/ride a bit more paranoid. Mikey passed his MSF class therefore he should have his M, but remember the last thing they tell you after you've passed the class (or at least what they're supposed to tell you) "Congratulations, now you're certified to ride around in a parking lot, now go out there and practice, practice, practice". The only way Mike's gonna get better is to practice, and this means he's going to be exposed to situations he may or may not be prepared for, but until he experiences them there's no way he's gonna learn. - Kaan - 08-10-2006 .RJ Wrote:If you hid all that ugly wiring, mounted up some dual round headlights and bar-end mirrors it would look pretty sweet! the ricer has jumped right out of RJs soul... it now has a purpose... his next quest... wire tucks, round lights... street fight'n for the women! - .RJ - 08-10-2006 Well, I do want a Monster 900.... - Kaan - 08-10-2006 haha build a street fighter... dont get a monster... and street fightering a monster takes all the fun out of it... its half way there! |
