How are you taxed when you "cash out" Restricted Stock Units?
Our company got good news yesterday, they are reopening the ability to buy company stock (private) to employees in early 2018. We grew 30% last year and will probably do that or better this year, so you know daddy gonna buy up as much as he can in January!

There are a couple options. You can Sell All (at award) and it's regular income. You can Sell to Cover and it will sell enough shares to cover the estimated income tax (they're just tacked on the top of your cash in tax returns). Any sales you make later is taxable like capital gains (short term, long term, losses, etc.) on the difference in price between sale and original vest price. For example, you pay $20 in taxes on the original $100 grant and you sell it nine months later at $120 - you pay short term capital gains on the $20 you made. The last option is Do Nothing, which means you're gonna get a big tax bill at the end of year. I guess it could work if you think the stock is going to explode, but that's a pretty big gamble.

Gotcha, thanks I was just curious. I figured they would hit you with cap gains somehow but at least they give you an option to sell some shares to soak the tax hit. If you had a lot of write-offs the third option could work I guess.

I always Sell All, but that's 'cause I'm not 25/single and don't care for that level of risk. It's paid off the last few years to hold, but I'm already exposed enough with AMZN in my 401k and future vests. I preach the Sell All message every few months at work; I'm amazed how many people have a SIGNIFICANT amount of money that can disappear if Bezos dies in a Blue Origin accident. I move the money into a more diversified blend of funds that is still somewhat aggressive, but also values asset preservation.

I hate the hiring process so much.
I applied for a seasonal ups supervisor job sometime last week. (it did not list a closing date). I get a call at 3:06pm today but I'm at work and cannot answer that moment (nor do I know the number or what it's in regards to). The voicemail I get is barely understandable(sounds like due to reception issues so maybe not their fault) but I can only make out that it's ups about that job and what I think you said was if I'm still interested, interviews will be held at 6:00pm....31st. Now I can only assume she said October. It broke up there. Then she left 30 more seconds of blips and clues about which location or locations the interviews would be held out. Mind you, even if it was a complete message or I could decipher it, you give me 3 hours notice on a Tuesday (work day for most) to be somewhere to interview for a job. Of course, I'm sure she didn't leave a callback number but I wouldn't have been able to understand it if she did and I wasn't able to sit down and try to make out what she was saying till like 4:30 or 5.
I know you'll all going to say, well if you want the job, you got to be willing to drop everything but it's still just bullshit. I guess I'll try and just call the number back that called me tomorrow during business hours but looks like this was another missed opportunity (although the way they conduct interviews makes it seem like a shitty one)

I didn't care for Old Hill's staff in the least. They weren't...rude, exactly but they weren't exactly chomping at the bit to answer questions or take my money. They could probably use some assistance.

I don't know any better but that's kind of like my dream job right now. Not necessarily with them because they're like 3 hours away from where I live lol but I've been applying to every cider company in the area and even ones out of the area with sales positions here. My advantage being that I already have a relationship with some of their distributors and many of their customers in different areas of the state. Disadvantage being, I have no direct sales experience. Either way, most either don't have anything open in the area and the rest just ignore my applications and emails.

I know Albermarle does internships, but probably unpaid.
FWIW, the head cidermaker at Distillery Lane was a homebrewer who got his job there just by buying juice from them, then giving them a bottle off the resulting cider.
He has won more medals than any cidery ive been to, so it cant be a bad strategy.

Old Hill is one of the only VA cideries I haven't been to yet.
I do plan on going to their open house during VA cider week on Nov 18 when they sell juice blends for cidermaking to homebrewers.

I interviewed with the owner of buskey before he really got up and running and although I sucked at the unstructured interview and I really didn't know much about the industry back then. But I told him how I had researched cider making/brewing a bit and I planned to brew my own in the near future and he said to contact him again if I ever did. I was unemployed at the time so I was more worried with finding concrete employment than brewing cider.
I applied for one of their sales manager jobs here recently after losing my current job and never even heard back so...yea.

I'm familiar mainly with Richmond and Harrisonburg accounts and distributors so if they're looking for people for scottsville or cville, I'd be a tough sell with no sales or beer experience and no network. I may be able to wing the beer part but idk

C'mon man, go get 'em. All of us started with no network or sales experience at some point. Go in there, express some enthusiasm for the product, business and your ability to overcome all challenges.

That's also like an hour and half from where I live x2 driving home too I'm not saying no. Just trying to find out some information. Also it's hard for me to push a product I'm not familiar with and don't like enough to be able to tell you why it's better than Natty light lol. I could cheat a little bit with the brands I used to carry because I saw how they sold and which ones were popular but I have no idea about this one

True but you do need to at a minimum like what you are selling to truly believe in the product. Sullivan doesn't even drink beer. I'm not saying it won't work but that's gonna be a tough battle to fight.
