Last post I promise until I make some headway on this, at least you guys know that I will pull the trigger and when I do it will be epic.

Honest thoughts on the G37S / IPL convertible? Secretly I have wanted a convertible for a couple of years after living down here.

Coupe is also a possibility. Plenty of motor, handling, brakes, etc. Not as updated interior as ATS but faster (there is a red option similar to Marello Red). They take to mods from what I hear. I have always felt that the Infinitis had more "feminine" exterior styling but the 37 broke that mold in my opinion.

I mean as soon as you start talking convertible there's only one to buy and you should go buy it new and keep your CTS for when it rains. You *won't*, of course, so this is all academic but still.

For real, these are the only ones around worth looking in to:

Re: New (to me) vehicle suggestions - WRXtranceformed - 07-27-2013

Dang it. LOVED the IPL. I really beat them up on the price and on my trade in so it would be a good move. Engine is super smooth and mated to the 7 speed it pulls really hard all the way to redline. The car feels as light/nimble as the ATS 2.0T even though I'm pretty sure it's heavier. Very flat through curves and just feels stable and planted to the road, whereas the ATS's handle also very well but still "float" like a Cadillac does. A lot of that could be the wheels and tire difference from both vehicles. The interior is decent and I was able to negotiate in a full red leather interior swap if I bought it (test drive car was black on black). Nice. I still feel that the interior is pretty dated compared to the ATS, it just really hasn't changed much since like 2004. Brushed aluminum trim is also definitely not as cool as red tinted carbon fiber. Seats are just as comfy as the Caddy and the exhaust note is SWEET in the IPL. Exterior hands down is sexier than the ATS and the point I made was that I wouldn't have to do a thing to it for it to have the wow factor. ATS is going to need a murder treament like the CTS for it to stand out among all of the other old people driving them around here.

I also stopped back by the Caddy dealership and test drove the Marello Red interior 2.0T and the Premium 3.6L. On paper the 3.6L (my current engine, just tweaked from the factory with more hp) is basically identical in 0-60 / 1/4 mile as the IPL. It doesn't feel that way and doesn't shift quite as fast as the IPL in the V6 form...it feels much more responsive to manual downshifts in the 2.0T. The 2.0T is a great motor and it's fun to drive but it sounds so awful. That is a big complaint that was an oversight the last time I drove it. It sounds like a weedwacker.

So I really think so far it is coming down to a Premium 3.6L vs. the IPL honestly. Which surprised me, I wasn't expecting to like the Infiniti so much. Caddy dealer is running numbers tonight but I just cannot get past the fact that American cars take such a huge depreciation hit...making it so tough for me out of principle to buy one brand new. I am looking at the IPL as a good carry-over car until the 2014 ATS's start to come off of lease and I can get a loaded one for like $15k less and let someone else take the hit.

I have a huge headache and almost never struggle this much with car decisions. The pragmatic in me is really starting to take over the impetuousness in me as I get older Tongue

Well, Lee, if it's any help in your decision, I doubt you'd find Infiniti cologne at your local Marshall's.

please go caddy.

Re: New (to me) vehicle suggestions - WRXtranceformed - 07-29-2013

I had my Cadillac guy send over quotes today for the ATS 3.6 premium, both lease and outright purchase and the final values are both too high from where I want to be. And the tough pill to swallow is I know when these come off lease in 1.5-2 years I am going to find the exact car I want (albeit after some digging) for like $15-18k less than what they are trying to get me to pay now. Basically when I am inevitably ready to swap out cars I will be underwater even worse than I am right now. That money will also go a long way getting this place furnished and renovation started.

Had a good phone call with Rex the other night and some good car guy advice. The IPL wouldn't have been a huge step up for me over the CTS. A loaded ATS maybe, but see above. You can actually find M56S's and M35Hs now in the price range I am trying to limit myself to and they have already taken that big hit. They are harder to find but if I can get into a test drive for either of those and swing the IS-F test drive I found in north Charlotte this weekend, I think I will be a lot closer to making the jump. I talked to another car buddy of mine who has a G37S today and he said it was a good call I didn't get the IPL, he and I are in the same boat. There just really aren't many options to upgrade from our cars for an extra $10-15k that are really that much better.

Hrmm, my first response was almost omgz Jag not reliable but it seems that the XK / XKRs have been pretty reliable machines over the years. The XF and XJ not so much which has brought their brand reliability down a lot. Maybe the newer ones are better since Ford took over? :dunno: I definitely like the looks of the XF though.

Looks like Jag XK / XKRs are close to the top of my money even when they are a couple of years old and tenured in miles.

Plenty of XFs in my range though, almost brand new 2012s even:

Re: New (to me) vehicle suggestions - Apoc - 07-30-2013

My dad has an '11 XFR and that thing is NICE. If I was buying luxury sedan, I think it's where I'd spend my money.

Re: New (to me) vehicle suggestions - WRXtranceformed - 07-30-2013

This one is boosted but a stretch on the limit. Might be worth a look, it's right up the street. 3 years left on the warranty, unlikely I would have it that long anyway:

Re: New (to me) vehicle suggestions - Evan - 07-30-2013

Ford sold their stake in Jaguar and Land Rover roundabouts 2008 to Tata IIRC

Re: New (to me) vehicle suggestions - HAULN-SS - 07-30-2013

The XFRs are hard to find, the XF Supercharged is good for MY '10 and up, and the SC'd '09 models should be way under your budget..like 34k perhaps. '10 they went to the 5.0L

Re: New (to me) vehicle suggestions - CaptainHenreh - 07-30-2013

This is not the worst idea in this thread.
