New RX7 rumors
Posted by: JackoliciousLegs - 02-14-2005, 06:00 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (13)

from RX7City:

Quote: With the Mazda RX-8 officially on sale in its major markets, Mazda is now turning to its next sports-car project. The company has officially endorsed plans to build a rotary-powered RX-7 replacement.

In the footsteps of the 1978 original, it will be a sleek, lightweight two-seater. Some platform, suspension and driveline elements will be borrowed from the RX-8 parts bin. Although expected to launch in 2006, a concept may be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show next month.

An amped version of the Renesis RX-8 engine is likely to power the RX-7. With wider and stiffer rotor housings, a higher redline, and displacement out to about 1.6 litres, Mazda plans on output of around 300hp in the normally aspirated form. It appears there will be no turbocharged version. Fear not, though, as for the first time ever, Mazda is working on a supercharged rotary option for RX-7.

The production car, code-named J77, is likely to be shorter and wider than the RX-8. There may even be a cabriolet variant with a fabric or folding hard-top hood.

From RotaryNews
Quote:The new RX-7 has been confirmed as 'coming soon', by a lot of industry folks and automotive publications. We cannot confirm this, but RN does know that a product has been developed and is being considered for production, but there are no firm production plans yet. But, based on our limited information and insight, gathered at a few press events and talking to industry people, here are a few predictions and thoughts on the new RX-7.

* Larger displacement RENESIS motor with possible forced induction.
* 300+hp regardless of the motor being N/A or turbo/super charged.
* Lightweight (less than 2800lbs)
* Extremely high handling limits
* Unique styling and design
* No compromises

Mazda understands that any new vehicle carrying the RX-7 moniker will have live up to the 3rd generation FD RX-7. We have actually been told as much by key Mazda people. They understand all of the shortcomings, and more importantly, the streghtens of the FD, and will/have addressed and/or improved on them, as to not make the same mistakes twice. The new RX-7 will be a car designed and built with the spirit of the FD, through and through!

This is entirely speculation of course :lol:

 So my motorcycle (engine) is no more
Posted by: mpg9999 - 02-14-2005, 12:53 PM - Forum: Motorcycles - Replies (16)

Long story short, an hour of nova traffic and my air coole bike dont mix, overheated. After some testing, it looks like it is probably my piston rings. Still have some more trouble shooting to do, but I'll probably have to replace or rebuild the engine. Sigh, and I was so close to swapping a new engine into my car, now that will probably have to wait.

 Could you guys do a survey for me?
Posted by: ScottyB - 02-13-2005, 02:44 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (9)

In my ISHAT 435 class this semester our main project is to develop a profitable product. Part of the assignment is that it has to be really simple, and should cater to a niche croud. So i am in the process of developing a shift knob. I won't go into extreme detail, but the idea is that it is of modular design and the center section of the knob (see ill.) could be gel filled or form fitting in some way to increase comfort.

anyway, i have to have about 20 or so complete surveys to aid in the development of my product. i figured who better a group to ask to fill out the survey than the MM crew? if it's not to inconvenient, i would prefer if you copy/paste this survey into an email and send it to bradfosk@jmu.edu. i would really really appreciate it. thanks guys!

here is the survey - please write down any number from 1 to 5 with 5 being most in agreement.

Shift Knob Questionaire

1. What is your age?

2. Would you like to be able to easily enrich the interior appearance of your car?

3. Do you enjoy modifying your car, or would you consider attempting to do so if it was inexpensive and easy to accomplish?

4. Are there times when you would prefer a shift knob that is softer to the touch than plastic or metal?

5. If you could change the texture of the shift knob from having a soft, gel-like feel to a solid, metallic or plastic feel, would you do so?

6. How often would you utilize the ability to change the color of your shift knob if it had the ability to do so?

7. Would you find it acceptable to use a shift knob that would require assembly and disassembly at times?

8. Would you consider the shift knob currently fitted to your vehicle to be ergonomically pleasing?

9. During your daily commute, do you shift your car very often or not much at all?

10. Is the shift knob on your vehicle comfortable in all weather conditions?

11. Do you find that if your hands are wet, cold, or if you are shifting in a hurry, that your hand slips from the shift knob?

12. Would you be pleased with a shift knob that weighs between 6 and 12 ounces?

13. Do you plan to own a car for a period of longer than 4 years?

14. If a shift knob could be fitted with different customizable parts, would you buy it as a single unit, or in a boxed set with 3 or 4 different optional parts?

15. Would you pay up to $45.00 for a shift knob?

 NASA AT VIR: Worker Schedules
Posted by: NASAlaura - 02-13-2005, 11:43 AM - Forum: Events - Replies (24)

Here is the latest on VIR and schedules:

Friday: 7:30PM Training: BE AT TECH SHED AT 7:30.
Andy Le
Justin Hensley
Nick Poe
Alison Varner
Drew Rodgers
Brent Ballew

Saturday morning:
We need 2 volunteers from MM to help with gate entry at the VIR gate from 6:30 to 7:20. I will also be asking 2 volunteers from the Clemson Motorsports club who are also coming. Please post here or e-mail me at laura@nasaracing.net. I would suggest that these two volunteers be people who were unable to come to the training on Friday evening.

ALL MM workers must arrive by 7:15 as the Mandatory ALL HANDS MEETING is at 7:30 at tech shed.
Toward the end of the meeting, all flaggers and trainees will be asked to follow Mark Adkins for the flagging meeting. Those who were trained on Friday night will go to their station with an experienced flagger. Those who have training on Sat morning will go with Mark to the tower.
Trained on Sat Morning:
Jeff Morrison
Sylvia Plaugher
Ryan Thayer
Carlie Snyder (possible)

FLAGGING CAPTAINS:
Gerald Irish
Jason Ray
Scott Bradford

FLAGGING Co-Captains:
Keith Galvin
Jack Hirsch

Once the training is completed for the Sat morning people, they will be taken to a station. At this time, we do think we have enough radios for all trainees. And, we will also have 25 white Tyvec coveralls for flaggers to wear on station. You will be on station all day Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday morning:
Be present for ALL HANDS MEETING at 7:45 at the Tech Shed. Go to flagging meeting afterward and go to assigned station.

I will post later today about hotel rooms and whose names the rooms will be under. I think we now have 4 hotel rooms for MM at Sleep Inn.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions! Big Grin
