Weird to Save Videos from the Internet?
Posted by: Apoc - 11-28-2006, 03:57 PM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (18)

I was talking to a co-worker and I send him a link of a program that will basically convert any video type into another video type. I use it mostly to convert flv (youtube) movies to something a little more WINAMP/WMP friendly. I'm not just talking about pr0n, but TV, race, movie clips you dig from youtube, google video and the like. He couldn't understand why I would want to keep anything locally.

Am I the only one?

edit: We're talking about at home computers, not work.

Him: cool, what do you need that for
Me: i use it to save youtube videos and convert from flv to something that doens't suck
Him: and then do what
Me: umm... keep them?
Him: oh, haha...
Him: it seems weird to have anything on your harddrive
Me: guess it depends on what you view on youtube
Me: TV clips, porn, you know... the good stuff
Me: i wouldn't like save any of your clips, that's just weird
Him: still weird
Me: why?
Him: because it's already out there on the internet
Me: might not always be there... or you don't want to have to load it to view
Him: so you basically save porn
Him: creepy
Him: haha
Me: you don't?
Him: no
Me: wow... i think you're probably the first guy i've known that doesn't
Him: it's out there on the internet
Him: new shit all the time
Him: no need to save stuff
Him: evidence, etc.
Me: well maybe you want some of the old shit
Me: evidence? i'm not 13 on my parents computer
Him: so back to why you would want to convert it?
Me: to keep it!
Me: i think we just have to end this right here
Him: haha
Him: ok, thank god

The "How not to" thread (video)
Posted by: G.Irish - 11-27-2006, 11:31 PM - Forum: Motorcycles - Replies (60)

I was just thinking that a lot of the titles for these moto videos starts with "How not to..." so why not have a "How not to thread".

First up: How not to catch a draft down the front straight on a 125. Apparently in the GP 125's it's common practice to loiter on the front straight to try to catch a tow off someone else during qualifying and/or free practice. Well...

  life beyond state maintenance
Posted by: PGK - 11-27-2006, 07:58 PM - Forum: Motorcycles - Replies (7)

I spent Thanksgiving weekend at my parent's place in rural Rappahanock county VA. They live a few miles past the "END STATE MAINTENANCE" sign down a dirt road. Naturally, shit happens.

oh noes!

I've gotten several comments from people who post here that the motor in my bike....

is more suited to a tractor than a motorcycle.

I think therein lies a solution.

The branches dragged too much, so I cut them off. And cut the tree in half.

Can you hear the clutch crying through the internet? 4K+3/4 clutch engagement.

I wish I had a picture of the cloud of smoke that came out of the clutch when I stopped at the top of the hill. The bike smelled like clutch the rest of the day.

I proved you all wrong. R60/5's make woefully inadequate tractors.

WTB: connector/wire from anyone with an e30 parts car
Posted by: Beej - 11-27-2006, 03:03 PM - Forum: For Sale/Trade, WTB - Replies (3)

The car probably has to have had cruise control at some point in the past.

On the a back of the instrument cluster, there's a green plug behind the speedo. There are 3 two prong 'ports' that only actually have one plug in them. If you could grab me the connector and as much wire as possible (there should be a few feet of wire that go up to the cruise control unit above the ECU), that'd be awesome.

  Oil Choices
Posted by: Jeff - 11-26-2006, 08:47 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (89)

Guys, I know this is a topic with no real clear cut answers, but I have a few questions and I want to get the group's thoughts.

Things I have noticed when using 10w30 Mobil 1 (or 10W30 walmart Synthetic)

-Low oil pressure (Sebring, Van, Dynasty)
-Loud cold starts (Sebring, Van)

Is there any reason for this? When I switched back to Dino 10/30 in the van it starts much quieter and the oil pressure needle stays a full 1/4 higher. The Sebring shows a flickering oil light when it is run hard, it never did that with Dino oil. Should I worry about it?

Also, what weight oil do you guys run in the winter time? In the summer? I'm thinking about using 15/40 this coming summer and using the 10/30 in the winter. Would 15/40 be bad for the turbo for any reason? I'm just thinking the thicker oil might not flow or cool as well. Are there any general rules of thumb when it comes to oil choices?
