We've (Me, Jon, Dan, Chris, Sam, and Abbie) have talked it over and I am going to run for president this year!

I would also like to run for a position. Preferably VP or wherever else I'm need. I have been a member since I first came to JMU and always had a blast. Whether it was autocrossing, social gatherings, or trips, I always had fun. I definitely want to keep that aspect going. Next year I would like to get more involved with the students and draw some potential ideas they were thinking. I hope next year we can get one more karting in as that always turns out to be a hit. Another thing I would really like to see are moar social gatherings and getting people out (doesn't have to just be drinking). Klines run, pizza trip (Jake), cruise anywhere. I really really really want to continue the ski trip if at all possible. For those who couldn't make it, wow. That was one of the best experiences I had in a while. From skishots to Ryan jumping off that roof there was no doubting that was one of the highlights of the semester. Dan, thanks for everything you have done, it's been one SOLID semester!

Edit: Next semester I will hopefully have the E30 up and I would LOVE it if current members would drive it
And more attendance (maybe fund-raise so other students don't have the excuse of no money) and definitely another in class teaching. I personally loved the one we had this year. Also as Jake (I think) mentioned, moar track time and a rally cross!

This one belongs to my friend Joe, down in Strasburg (or up, if you're at JMU). If you've been at the track in years past, you've seen it flung around corners at Summit and VIR. Well, for a variety of life-changes reasons, he's gotta sell it. It would be a great DD/autocross car for any student looking for just that.



It's a '94. White with white hardtop ($1k value right there) from a 90-93 (which means, no defroster). 178k miles, A-Package options (power windows, power mirrors, Torsen limited-slip diff).

I started my HPDE career in this car. The motor is strong, it'll do 105+ on the back straight of VIR (for a Miata, that's about whatcha got).

The Good:
no rust, car's pretty straight. trunk needs re-paint badly. (rattle can job..) well, paints in decent shape on the whole car, but right rear quarter is different color from PO. not sure why. frame is straight.

car handles awesome on track. setup proper to be a relatively maintenance free track car. 5 years and dozens of events and only issue i had was a spark plug wire pop off. oil changed before every event, sometimes 2x per month.

The Bad:
drivers' side seat belt retractor acting up
rear main seal is leaking. has been for a little while, but haven't gotten around to it.
starter acts up. i have a replacement already just haven't gotten to it.

It's getting a new VA state inspection this week.

Joe wants $4500 for the car, hardtop, three sets of wheels/tires, and tire trailer. The hardtop is worth roughly a grand. I think this is a good effin' deal. DJ doesn't, because he wants to pay $600 for every car, ever. Joe also said $3,500 if you don't want the hardtop.

Are cars just... not cool to college kids anymore?

Just throwing up a feeler thread to see if there would be any possible interest in MM for my bike.


I can get more pics obviously, but its basically stock except for the Yoshi pipe and Chrome rims.

Has ~19k miles and I didnt get to ride much last year, so I am thinking about selling it. battery died over the winter, but in the ~3.5 years ive owned it that's the first time that's happened. If it wont charge easily I'll just throw a new one in.

Put oil in it last year, rode it for maybe 100 miles and didnt get around to riding anymore.

Put it on CL today just to see what kind of bites i might get at 3500, but I'd probably take 3150 or so.

A little intro about my car history leading up to the GTI:
My first car was a 2010 Jeep Liberty Renegade and thank god. Ill admit it, when I first got my license, I was the biggest a-hole on the road, and occasionally off road too. The liberty was great because it kept me somewhat grounded and allowed me to beat the crap out of it without any complaints. It also kept my pockets full since there is more or less no aftermarket for it. I did however put some Grabber AT2s on which were by far the best "mod" I could have done. After almost 2 years and way too much money spent on gas (10 MPG tends to sting after a while with no job during the school year), I started looking for something different.

My god, my lust for an 06 GTO will never disappear, but a RWD V8 manual 2 door was a bit out of range when it came to insurance, as well as the most impractical car I could think of. After plenty of sleepless nights on random forums, I narrowed it down to 1.

Enter Sasha Grey, the 2011 Black DSG GTI


I love the car. Its a huge step up from the liberty and this time, in the right direction. Its fast enough to enjoy any trip and handles pretty well with the stock suspension. The black is a total pain in the butt to maintain but I still like it. I would had preferred the Shadow Blue but my options were limited. I bought the car used with 7k miles and the CPO warranty is good until 2016/60k miles, all for 2k under KBB, which I was pretty happy with. My only grievance is that I didn't notice the bottom of the front bumper was curbed by the previous owner, leaving a really classy scar. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a more well rounded car. I bought the car in spring 2012 and over the summer I put about 10k on the car, most of which were random cruises up and down the Delaware River. Currently she sits at 18k in my garage in NJ waiting for me to come home and drive her.

To date I've done only a few mods:
- APR Stage 1
- Neuspeed P-Flo intake
- 30% tint
- OEM LED tails (from Germany... mmmmmm)
- P3 Cars Digital Boost gauge (the 0-60 feature is addictive)
- Magnaflow cat-back

The goal by the end of the summer is to have:
- DG or VWR or H&R lowering springs
- Ed's replica HIDs
- If I can find a set of Sparco Asseto Garas or something similar for cheap, Ill pick those up and wrap them with Hankook Ventus V12s and keep the stock Detroits with A/S for the winter.

Here we will have the current students wishing to obtain any of the 4 positions- I will have them post up on here and I will simply copy and paste the entrees (names and such) into this original post so you can all read why they are running, what they plan to do to improve the club, their thoughts and ideas etc.

This is not meant to be a heated/ bashing post- flaming or providing negative criticism to the current executives will not be permitted, this post is meant to serve as a way for our alumni and current student body to see who is running and why they are running and what they intend to do moving forward into the new year!

I managed to mine half a bitcoin 2 years ago. :lol: I was probably using more electricity than the value at the time, I gave up, lost interest. Market fell to $5/coin for a long time. Suddenly it's up to $200 over just a couple months.
Any of you use them or holding any? There's got to be some rich geeks out there now!

I was just thinking about random lessons learned awhile back and had compiled them into a list. Many of these I've learned the hard way, but occassionally I've learned from someone else's misfortune. What are some of your school of hard knocks lessons?

• Dial it back further than you think you need to when driving other people's stuff.
  
  
• Don't try to do what Pete can do.
  
  
• Cold tires will fuck you. In a car cold tires are a footnote. On a bike cold tires may be the start of the worst (or last) day of your life.
  
  
• Use a torque wrench and anti-seize. Anti-seize those nuts.
  
  
• The track may be dry, but if the grass is wet you will be screwed if you leave the track. Adjust your level of aggression accordingly.
  
  
• Buy a factory service manual. Read through to the last step before you get started on a job you're unfamiliar with.
  
  
• Take the brake fluid reservoir off before you try to push the piston back into the caliper.
  
  
• Ratcheting closed end wrenches are worth it. Take care in using them in tight spots, you can ratchet your wrench into being stuck that way.
  
  
• AWD helps you go, but it doesn't help you stop, nor does it help you turn in most cases.
  
  
• Upgrade your brakes before you significantly upgrade your suspension or engine.
  
  
• Don't buy anything from Harbor Freight that you have to put together. If you must, allot more time than you'd think to deal with quality control issues.
  
  
• Before you do a motorcycle track day, do a motorcycle track school. Your motorcycle (and your body) will last longer that way.
  
  
• Do not buy rusty piles from Northern states. The time you spend smashing your knuckles dealing with seized bolts is not worth it.
  
  
• Do a compression test when you're buying a used performance vehicle. Sure it takes time, but it could save you a shit ton of money and hassle. Exception: Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S
  
  
• You will not get any loving from girls asking you to fix their car. Demand compensation in food or alcohol for your troubles.
  
  
• He who shares a beer, gains a mechanic. Wait till said mechanic is sober though.
  
  
• Wrenching and beer are a great way to spend a day, but they are also a great way to not get done what you intended to. Drink Red Bull (without vodka, Chan) or coffee instead.
